The second book from Asimov Press is now available for pre-order. Embracing the book's technology theme, we did something special: We encoded the entire book into DNA & packaged it into stainless steel capsules, where it will live for tens of thousands of years. Just 1,000 copies were made. Here's how. In Boston, CATALOG converted the book's text into the As, Ts, Cs, and Gs of DNA. The book was encoded in 500k unique molecules, collectively stretching millions of bases (longer than a bacterial genome.) The DNA was shipped all the way to France, where Imagene SA (Société Anonyme) packaged it into laser-sealed, stainless steel capsules under an inert atmosphere. Devoid of air, humidity, and contaminants, the DNA in these capsules is expected to survive for tens of thousands of years without decay. And finally, a DNA capsule was shipped to Plasmidsaurus, a DNA sequencing company in California. The capsule was opened upon arrival and the DNA inside was reconstituted in water. The DNA was then "read" using a nanopore device and uploaded to the Internet for all to enjoy. You will soon be able to view the DNA sequence, and learn more about how the text was encoded into nucleic acids, on CATALOG's website. Check it out at https://lnkd.in/eDNAdFSi. And thanks to Jason Carman and his team at S3 for the excellent announcement video. Note that this is the first commercially-available book to be written in DNA and sold in both forms. But it's not the first book encoded in DNA. In 2012, George Church encoded his book, Regenesis, into DNA. But he never sold that DNA; customers could only buy the physical book. Now we're changing that. You can buy our second book in both forms. When you order a DNA capsule, you also get a printed book. Pre-orders are now open. Orders will ship in February. Thanks to Asimov for their immense support, as always. Learn more and order your copy at https://lnkd.in/eH4RYr6r Check out the announcement video: https://lnkd.in/erpFV8yg

CATALOG uses large amounts of synthetic DNA as the basis of our DNA-based computational platform, delivering tremendous benefits over traditional computers. As we and others contribute to the development of the #bioeconomy, it is essential to address #biosecurity and #biosafety concerns from the outset. During last week’s gathering in Geneva, hosted by the World Economic Forum, the International Biosecurity and Biosafety Initiative for Science (IBBIS), and CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations), global leaders convened to discuss these pressing issues. CATALOG is committed to collaborating with international partners for a safe and responsible transition to a bio-based economy and appreciates the opportunity to present its strategy for tackling these challenges.
