Our team is better equipped than ever to protect Catalina Island from fire risks! Earlier this year, 10 of our crew members completed a five-day wildland firefighter training with Firestorm, learning both in the classroom and out in the field. With new gear and essential safety equipment, we’re ready to respond to fire threats and keep the Island safe. #CatalinaConservancy #FireSafety

About us
The mission of the Catalina Island Conservancy is to be an exemplary steward of Island resources through a balance of conservation, education and recreation. Through its ongoing efforts, the Conservancy protects the magnificent natural and cultural heritage of Santa Catalina Island, stewarding approximately 42,000 acres of land, 50 miles of rugged shoreline, an airport, and more than 200 miles of roads. Twenty miles from the mainland, the Island is a treasure trove of historical and archeological sites, and numerous rare and endangered animals and plants.

Meet us at the Trailhead Visitor Center in Avalon at 6:30am. We'll split into groups to cover as much of the island as possible, then reconvene in Avalon for lunch and a recap of our findings. 🍂 This fall, you might spot our team in action on Catalina Island, monitoring and vaccinating the beloved Catalina Island fox. Why? Back in the late '90s, Canine Distemper Virus wiped out 90% of the fox population in just months. Thanks to a dedicated recovery program, their numbers have now soared to over 1,700! Vaccinating these foxes not only prevents the spread of diseases like rabies but also helps protect pets, enhance public safety, and support a thriving ecosystem. Stay tuned for more updates on Fox Monitoring!
