Our mission is to provide every child in need with trained volunteer advocates to ensure their safety.
About us
We train and supervise volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children who are in foster care. Through our volunteers, CASA advocates for the educational, health, and safety needs of children in care. Our vision is to provide a CASA for every child. In order for CASA to fully accomplish its mission, our volunteers, staff and board will be cognizant of and sensitive to each child’s/family’s frame of reference, including their heritage, culture, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, socio-economic status, place of birth, disabilities, and/or family structure. Volunteers will be able to sensitively communicate with the child and their family and in turn appropriately communicate the child’s needs to the court while considering diversity, equity, and inclusion for each case. CASA will strive to achieve a volunteer base, staff, and board of directors that reflects the diversity of children in the judicial and child welfare systems as well as its community. Volunteer service will be made accessible to all individuals regardless of gender identity, age (must be 21), ethnicity, socio-economic situation, or disability. Cultural awareness and competency is an integral component of all training for board, staff, and volunteers. Marion County is a diverse county with rural and urban areas.

CELEBRATING OUR VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH Bri is a fantastic volunteer who is truly passionate about the kids in our community. Bri has served as a CASA with us for the last four going on five years. She is a fierce and caring advocate and is not afraid to fight for her CASA kids’ best interests. Regardless of case complexities, Bri is consistently a voice for her kids when it is most needed, ensuring that all actions are always taken with the child’s best interest in mind. With resolve and empathy, Bri’s recommendations are always considerate of the children’s met and unmet needs. Bri’s commitment to the children and youth in our community speaks volumes about her kind and compassionate character. Her care and consideration for the kids in our community is outstanding and we are fortunate to have her on team CASA. PLEASE SHARE ICYMI, an editorial was published in The Oregonian yesterday advocating for meaningful child welfare reform. In it, CASA programs are highlighted as part of the solution, along with the need for increased funding. There is also a recommendation for state leaders to engage with Oregon CASA Network to address the most pressing child welfare issues. Here is the link: https://lnkd.in/gANZJAqi Our work changes lives and sometimes even saves lives of children in foster care. We welcome opportunities like this increase the visibility of CASA programs. Although the article does not give the most data on % of kids represented by a CASA (1 in 3 don’t have a CASA by our count), this article nonetheless shares the impact of our program with a statewide audience.

Please join us in welcoming our newest Court Appointed Special Advocates! Yesterday, the Honorable Manuel Perez, Marion County Circuit Court judge, swore in three new CASA volunteers. This includes Jim (a lawyer at Saalfeld Griggs PC | Business Lawyers), Mindy (a retired elementary school teacher from Salem-Keizer Public Schools), and Hayden, (an academic advisor at Willamette University). All three will receive their first foster care case within the coming days. Bilingual Advocate Coordinator Melissa De La Lima is pictured alongside our new CASAs and Judge Perez.
