    I Create Stuff!

Passionate educators are rare, and their impact is profound! As part of of my M.Des program from O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) in association with CareerReactor and upGrad, I am currently learning the nuances of #UXdesign Needless to say, the schedule can get very demanding sometimes and if not for the way the course has been crafted, this subject could easily get overwhelming. Thankfully, some of the most brilliant minds in this field have come up with the course after years of dedicated research and testing. Even then, it takes herculean effort to cater to the needs of a diverse cohort like ours. Such an effort was made by one of our mentors Simran Singh last weekend. Upon knowing that some of us did not have any experience with Figma, a software which was the centerpiece of the upcoming assignment, he immediately stepped up! Overnight he crafted a crash course single-handedly and then spent the entire next day, a Sunday, walking us through it. What was supposed to be a 90-minute sprint became a 7-hour marathon. But not once did he complain! He kept on going, answering all our queries multiple times and egging us on to try out things then and there. He was the definition of being "Hands-On". People like Simran are far and few in the creative cosmos. These are the people who embody the belief that with great knowledge comes a far greater responsibility to impart that knowledge. They understand that teaching requires patience, forgiveness, and sometimes the willingness to guide others every step of the way. The journey ahead may be long, but with heroes like Simran in our ranks, I know I am in good hands! What are your thoughts? • Thought-provoking take by one of our M.Des. students Sanat Kumar Verma on balancing minimalism with cultural richness: can simplicity coexist with emotional depth in design?

💡 Can Minimalism Sometimes Be Too... Minimal? (Part-1) I've been diving into an insightful book lately: Think Like The Minimalist by Chirag Gander and Sahil Vaidya, the brilliant minds behind The Minimalist . It explores the philosophy of minimalism, not just as a design principle but as a mindset to solve complex problems creatively. The book is full of thought-provoking ideas that have left me questioning more than I expected. While reading, a thought struck me: 💡 Are we losing the glory of details in the name of minimalism? Think about architecture. Walk through the streets of any historic city, and you’ll be surrounded by the grandeur of intricate carvings, culturally rich motifs, and design elements that reflect the soul of a place. Even the smallest things, like streetlights or road dividers, carried a sense of identity. Now compare that with today’s urban designs—clean, functional, efficient, but often devoid of personality or cultural relevance. Minimalism has made our cities streamlined, but have they become colorless in the process? This thought naturally led me to another realm I’m passionate about: UX Design In the digital world, minimalism dominates. Websites and apps focus on simplicity—white spaces, flat designs, and fewer elements to make interfaces intuitive and clutter-free. It’s a great approach for usability, but are we losing the richness of emotional connection and cultural identity in the process? Take a moment to reflect: when was the last time a digital product’s design wowed you with its uniqueness? Here’s the challenge we face as designers and creators: 👉 How do we balance simplicity with cultural richness? 👉 How do we create interfaces that are functional yet emotionally engaging? The answer might lie in thoughtful details: 👉 Incorporating cultural or localized elements subtly within a minimalist framework. 👉 Adding delightful micro-interactions or animations that bring interfaces to life. 👉 Using personalization to make designs feel uniquely relevant to each user. For instance, Duolingo’s playful animations or Airbnb’s localized visuals show that minimalism can coexist with character and depth. It’s about designing with intention—where every element, no matter how small, tells a story or serves a purpose. So, what do you think? 👉 Have we gone too far with minimalism in design? 👉 How can we bring back the "glory of details" without compromising simplicity? ✨ I’d love to hear your thoughts—whether from the lens of architecture, digital design, or even everyday life. Let’s start a conversation about finding the perfect balance between the two! CareerReactor UXReactor O.P. 📖 Just finished reading “Articulating Design Decisions” by Tom Greever, and I’m genuinely inspired! Though many designers may have come across this book, it's the first one that kept me consistently engaged from start to finish. The opening chapter captivated me, setting the tone for what became a valuable lesson: the ability to effectively communicate design decisions is as crucial as the designs themselves. Here’s what I took away: 1. Solve a Problem: A design isn’t complete unless it addresses a specific challenge. Define goals, metrics, or KPIs early to keep you grounded. We designers often intuitively reach solutions, but breaking down that “gut feeling” can help others understand and support our choices. 2. Prioritize Usability: At each stage, ask, “How does this affect the user?” Usability is a mix of common sense and user research. Even with limited data, leverage your expertise to make informed assumptions, but stay ready to adapt based on real user feedback. Document your reasoning; it helps you defend your design decisions when needed. 3. Earn Support: Without team alignment, design conversations repeat endlessly. Keep stakeholders engaged by clearly communicating the "why" behind every decision. Have alternative solutions ready as comparisons, which not only validates your preferred design but also demonstrates thorough consideration. 🏢 In Meetings: 1. Understand: Know the concerns and goals of your audience. 2. Listen: Acknowledge feedback without defensiveness. Sometimes, valuable insights lie beneath surface objections. 3. Respond: Articulate decisions confidently and back them up with data or user-centered reasoning. 4. Follow Up: Reinforce your points with documentation to prevent revisiting the same discussions in future meetings. Mastering these skills doesn’t just elevate designs – it strengthens collaboration, builds trust, and leads to outcomes everyone is proud of. Let’s continue honing our craft, not just in design but in the way we communicate it. 🎨✍️ #Design #UXDesign #crmdes #CareerReactor #Opjindal #Upgrad #Communication #TomGreever #ArticulatingDesignDecisions
