Imagine taking your car to the mechanic for repairs, but on the way home it breaks down again. Now consider what it would be like if you call the garage once you've limped home - and you're told the mechanic can see your car in 8 months. (and keep in mind there are no other mechanics available right now) Sounds like a nightmare scenario doesn't it? If auto repairs were like this, we'd want to go to that mechanic with every damn symptom "on the table and clear" to the specialist. This is what care looks like for Fibroids patients. It's not new, this is how it's been for decades. The key to avoiding such a disaster is to get to that appointment with as much symptom information as possible. Since 2012, CANFib has offered tools to help women with Fibroids track their bleeding quantities more accurately. By offering tools that allow women to use their current Feminine Hygiene to calculate their loss, patients can offer their GYN or Specialist the most accurate view of the situation. This avoids the potential disaster of going home with high hopes for a treatment that is of no value to the symptoms at hand. And that means more women find relief sooner - in turn - opening appointment times for other Women with Fibroids. This is a win-win we can actually achieve! https://lnkd.in/gqpx8r6E

"No One Studied Menstrual Product Absorbency Realistically until Now" A recent (August 2023) Scientific American Article points out that given the myriad of menstrual products on the market, their absorbency has largely been ignored. In the article the point (in short) is that a specialist will base treatment options partially on the amount of blood lost but will ask "how many pads or tampons do you use in a day" as the marker of loss. Without translating that back to a measurable quantity - there is no accuracy. Some pads hold 20ml and others 40ml (making the leeway for miscalculation is double). I HAVE NEWS FOR SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN ---------------------------------------------- CANFib has not only been preaching, but has produced (and provides) practical charting tools for Women with Fibroids that calculate blood loss based on particular menstrual products and the volume they hold (offering a more accurate view for their specialist). By offering accurate symptom information, a patient can start treatment at the most logical stage for her condition rather than at the beginning of the recommended list. It's so good to see such incredibly intelligent mainstream science and news communities welcoming uterine condition research and discussion. https://lnkd.in/dRyV_pez

More and more women are experiencing Fibroids earlier and earlier in life. This alarming trend indicates research must strive to find causes and cures as well as treatments (with an overall goal of curing the condition or fully averting it). Our Decade of Surveys shows that: In 2023, age group 25-34 made up 14% of respondents. In 2017, 273 women answered the same question. In 2017, age group 25-34 made up 9% of respondents. In 2014, 244 women answered the same question. In 2014, age group 25-34 made up 7% of respondents.

Last month I had the privilege of representing more than 28,000 Women with Fibroids at Benefits Canada. As an expert in Uterine Disorders in Canada and organizer of CANFib, I answered questions for Major Funders of Canadian Health Programs. It's my hope that my insights offered the kind of impact that will engage donors of Health Issues to Uterine Disorders, an underfunded, under represented and under researched area of health, Women's Uterine Disorders cost time, money and bring forward debilitating symptoms for 100s of 1000s of women in Canada. I told funders that it's time for us to speak up. No longer can these be topics kept in the back; covering ears, leaving the room, these things can no longer be done. We need to ensure men and women alike know about Uterine Issues before they find out through experience. It's imperative we know about these issues as a matter of ongoing public discussion and discourse, only then will the proportionate amount of funding and research be allocated. https://lnkd.in/gYsf47DU

It turned out to be an excellent article on Women's Health, covering various stages of life. I really appreciate the invitation to be a part of this large scale Media Planet project and found the article to be very informative, The message that grows with every day is that it's time to move Women's Health into the every-day conversation. By allowing our own issues to remain in the shadows we've wasted precious time - only recently is research so avid and meticulous. ~ Patricia, Founder CANFib.
