A contract research laboratory specializing in solving material science problems in product research and development
About us
Cambridge Polymer Group is an ISO 17025-accredited contract research organization specializing in polymer science. We provide clients with a range of services, from routine analytical testing to custom formulation development. Our multidiscipline staff is proficient at designing new test methods and instrumentation, and at solving device problems. We act as an out-sourced R&D innovation center, developing proof-of-concept materials, test methods, instruments, and devices based on client specifications or needs. Cambridge Polymer Group also provides services in the area of medical device cleanliness, a growing topic in the medical device community. We perform tests to assess device cleanliness, and assist clients in design considerations for minimizing cleaning issues. Cambridge Polymer Group heads up a task force at ASTM focused on drafting standards around device cleanliness. We have developed several formulations of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) for hip, knee and shoulder applications. These technologies have been approved for use by the FDA in several medical implants, and are available for license. We are certified to ISO 9001:2015, accredited to ISO 17025:2005, DEA-licensed, and FDA registered.

📢 ASTM International has released a significant revision to ASTM F2459, a crucial standard for medical device cleanliness. This updated standard expands its scope beyond metallic implants to include ceramic and polymeric medical devices: https://lnkd.in/dgDa7kUA Key points of the revised standard: ➡️ Expanded scope: Now encompasses a wider range of medical devices ➡️ Enhanced cleanliness requirements: Stricter protocols for device cleaning and testing ➡️ Updated testing methodologies: More precise and reliable cleanliness assessments Why this matters: 1️⃣ Improved patient safety 2️⃣ Reduced risk of healthcare-associated infections 3️⃣ Higher quality standards for medical device manufacturers This update reflects the evolving needs of the medical device industry, particularly in light of new manufacturing technologies like additive manufacturing. #MedicalDevices #CleaningValidation #PatientSafety #HealthcareInnovation

Multi-step pyrolysis GC-MS can be used to evaluate the additive package and base resin of a polymeric material with only a small sample and no preparation beyond transferring the material to a quartz pyrolysis tube. This approach is particularly useful for analyzing complex polymers like polypropylene, which often contains antistatic agents, slip agents, sterically hindered phenol antioxidants, and UV-absorbers. Results of Multi-Step Analysis: 1️⃣ Thermal Desorption (350°C): ✔️ Identified a sterically hindered phenol antioxidant ✔️ Detected hexaethylene glycol (likely a functional group of a higher molecular weight slip additive) 2️⃣ Pyrolysis (800°C): ✔️ Yielded a pattern of 1-alkenes consistent with polypropylene Multi-step #pygcms allows for a comprehensive analysis of both additives and the base polymer, demonstrating its effectiveness in polymer deformulation: https://lnkd.in/ejqURc_k #PyrolysisGCMS #polymerdeformulation #Chromatography

🚨 FDA Workshop Recap: Potential Expansion of ASCA Program 🚨 Earlier this month, CPG's Rebecca Bader and Stephen Spiegelberg participated in an FDA workshop on the possible expansion of the Accreditation Scheme for Conformity Assessment (#ASCA) program to include #ChemicalCharacterization testing per ISO 10993-18. This proposed expansion would build upon the current ASCA program, which primarily covers select biological endpoint tests according to ISO 10993.
