  • A huge THANK YOU to all the incredible advocates who are riding the movement for creativity with us and proving just how vital arts and culture are to our lives. This year, we showed up in Sacramento, fought fiercely, and reversed 75% of the proposed devastating cuts to arts funding in the governor’s May Budget. Together, we built coalitions that ensured artists and creatives have a voice at the table where decisions are made. Access to arts, culture, and creative expression isn’t a luxury—it’s an essential public good with immense impact. We’re committed to ensuring it remains accessible for all. Let’s keep fighting for the transformative power of the arts! Join us in making a difference and help us advance equitable access to the arts so all communities can thrive. In this clip, we hear from Jonathon Glus, Director of Cultural Affairs for the City of San Diego, who shares the impact of an audit of the Arts and Culture Commission that was conducted in 2019. “We looked at finance, purchasing, procurement, legal. ‘What are the racial and equity barriers in our procedures?’ What we did was reduce barriers down to one-to-one funding match. 80% of our funding is now up front, not reimbursement…We directly fund organizations in our Promise Zone and communities of concern.” Tune in to hear more of the City of San Diego’s wins, along with other statewide arts advocates, including Lilia Gonzales-Chavez, Executive Director of the Fresno Arts Council; Andrea Hansen, Executive Director at Kern Dance Alliance & Program Director at KDA Creative Corps; Anne Brown-Crawford, Artist/Designer/Consultant at ABC et cetera Design Consultancy; Jennifer Laine, Executive Director of San Benito Arts Council; Megan Morgan, Race and Equity Manager at California Arts Council; Shira Lane, Founding Executive Director at Atrium 916; and Felicia Shaw, Executive Director of San Diego ART Matters.
