  • The Brownsville-Harlingen metro has claimed the #1 ranking in Area Development’s 2024 Leading Metro Locations Report, highlighting its remarkable economic transformation. Recognized as the top city in Texas for job creation, this achievement is fueled by key growth drivers and strategic initiatives that continue to propel the region forward. On our end, the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) has invested over $7.5 million in quality of life programs, enhancing amenities and fostering a community-centric approach to economic growth. The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas attributes much of the region’s growth to SpaceX’s presence and investments exceeding $3 billion. SpaceX’s Starbase facility has placed Brownsville into the national spotlight, creating high-paying aerospace jobs and positioning the city as a high-tech manufacturing hub. The Port of Brownsville reported a 17% increase in total cargo tonnage in 2023, reaching 17.8 million tons. This underscores the port’s pivotal role in facilitating trade and commerce for South Texas, boosting the region’s economic development. This recognition by Area Development underscores Brownsville’s ongoing efforts to build a resilient economy, foster innovation, and improve the quality of life for its residents. Local leaders note that this is Brownsville’s most significant economic expansion in recent memory, with transformative developments across key sectors contributing to its surge in job creation and investment attraction.
