To Change the Way the World thinks about Adults with Disabilities!

About us

Through the grace of God, The Brookwood Community provides an educational environment that creates meaningful work, builds a sense of belonging, and awakens genuine purpose in the lives of adults with disabilities. Brookwood provides meaning and purpose in the lives of adults with disabilities. Our Citizens are the heart of Brookwood. Brookwood’s day program started in 1983, and our first residential Citizens joined in 1985. Today, more than 250 Citizens work in one or more of our enterprises at our main campus in Brookshire or one of our two satellite locations in Richmond, Texas and The Woodlands, Texas. Over 113 Residential Citizens live on our 485-acre campus and another 140 Day Citizens live at home and commute daily to work on campus. Our Citizens enjoy genuine fellowship, participate in fitness activities in our indoor swimming pool and gymnasium, celebrate the presence of God in our interfaith worship center, and when necessary, receive care in our onsite health clinic. From the beginning, Brookwood was founded on the American free enterprise system and does not take government funds. Our funding comes from tuition, enterprise revenue, and donations. We are committed to serving adults with disabilities from all economic backgrounds and give extensive scholarship assistance.

  • This August marked a momentous occasion at The Brookwood Community as we celebrated both our future and our rich legacy. On August 23, we held a deeply meaningful assembly where leadership was symbolically passed to our next generation. Community Life Director Greggie Glauser guided a moving ceremony as the Brookwood baton was passed from God’s Chair to our Founder, Yvonne Streit, to former CEO Vivian Shudde, and then to our new CEO, Greg Hubert, who was sworn in by Citizen Chief Justice Bill Overstreet. Greg energized the room by high-fiving Citizens, signaling excitement for Brookwood’s future. We also honored four incredible Brookwood Citizens—Karen Ghormley, Chad Roberts, Kurt Larson, and Vicki Streit—each of whom celebrated 40 years of dedicated work in our community. From horticulture to tree farming, their contributions have shaped Brookwood’s past and continue to inspire us. As we step into this exciting new chapter under Greg's leadership, we remain deeply grateful for the journey that brought us here. Here's to building an even brighter future together! https://conta.cc/4dWkAv6

  • We are thrilled to announce a generous gift from Glesby Marks, a leading fleet leasing company. Thanks to owner Gary Glesby and his dedicated team, The Brookwood Community has received a custom-designed Ford Super Duty F-250 truck to support our Maintenance Department. This contribution ensures the safety and upkeep of our campus, directly benefiting our Citizens. The journey to this donation began at the Brookwood Benefit Lunch in April, where Steve Stephens of Amegy Bank introduced Glesby Marks to our mission. Inspired by our work, they chose Brookwood for their annual vehicle donation. We are deeply grateful to Amegy Bank for continuously introducing new supporters to Brookwood and helping us forge meaningful connections. The generosity of Glesby Marks exemplifies how collaborative efforts can make a significant difference in changing the way the world thinks about adults with disabilities. On August 1, CEO/President Emily Rauch Stoller handed the keys to our Maintenance Department. Our Horticulture Citizens welcomed the Glesby Marks team with signs, pom-poms, and chants of "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!" They toured our campus, met Citizens, and enjoyed a meal at The Brookwood Cafe.
