Disruption for Good is our mission. We invest in companies that are transforming traditional industries in positive ways
About us
Broadscale Group is a new model of investment firm working with leading energy corporations to invest in and commercialize the industry's most promising market-ready innovations. We provide our network of industry leaders with preferred access to new technologies and services that will make them more efficient and competitive. And we offer growth-stage companies streamlined access to strategic sources of capital, distribution, and demand. We believe the key to unlocking progress in energy and resources is combining the drive, creativity, and technological advances of the best entrepreneurial companies with the market knowledge and reach of our industry-leading network members. Capital is necessary, but not sufficient. New models of collaboration are needed. Using the power of network effects, transparency, competition, and financial alignment, we identify the most promising new technologies and business models, aggregate demand for them, and accelerate their deployment. Broadscale is the first clearinghouse of this kind, created to address the market challenges that have prevented viable technologies from achieving mainstream success. This is particularly true in the energy and resource industries, where sizable capital requirements, complex regulations, and long adoption periods often prevent promising technologies from reaching commercial scale. For this reason, we are starting with a focus on power and utilities. While our work builds on the experience of investment funds, merchant banks, and technology accelerators, Broadscale is a new kind of organization. We leverage our deep relationships with leaders at both large corporations and growth companies to connect the right market participants, align their financial interests, and partner with them to turn innovation into impact.

Go M-KOPA!!
Such a mind-blowing, deeply inspiring trip to Kenya to visit Broadscale Group’s portfolio company M-KOPA, which has loaned over $1.5B to 5M+ customers in Sub-Saharan Africa, allowing them to afford smartphones, financial services, electric motorbikes, solar, and other essentials for the first time. We initially invested during Covid so this was my first time visiting: Getting to see M-KOPA’s smartphone assembly plant (the largest in Africa), battery tech lab, and call center, and meet customers and direct sales reps (30k strong, they are the largest force on the continent) was nothing short of amazing. Huge kudos to CEO/Founder Jesse Moore and his supremely talented team! Finishing the trip with a couple days together on safari at the Masaai Mara National Park was just sublime (thanks Jesse Zigmund!).

Broadscale is proud to be an investor in one of “Africa’s Fastest Growing Companies” for three consecutive years, M-KOPA.
We are incredibly proud to share that M-KOPA has been listed as one of Financial Times Africa's Fastest Growing Companies 2024. This makes us one of 17 companies to be recognised for the third consecutive year. This ranking, done in partnership with Statista, is a testament to the substantial growth we have recorded in our efforts to bridge financial and digital inclusion through affordable financing for smartphones, electric motorbikes and digital financial services, such as digital loans and health insurance, in respective markets. Our growth trajectory has been incredible. We have expanded our presence to five African countries: Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa, and have unlocked over $1 billion in digital credit for over 4 million people. Additionally, we established Kenya’s first local smartphone assembly factory, we directly employ more than 2,000 people and create a source of income for over 20,000 individuals on our sales agent network. We are thankful to be recognized by Statista and Financial Times as a driving force in the global economy and are excited to achieve new milestones for Africa. https://lnkd.in/dzJa_HvU #AfricaFastestGrowingCompanies #Fintech #FinancialTimes
