About us
The State of Ohio created the Broadcast Educational Media Commission in July 2013 as an independent agency to advance education and accelerate the learning of the citizens of this state through public educational broadcasting services. Specifically, the Commission: • provides leadership and support in extending the knowledge of the citizens of this state by promoting access to and use of educational broadcasting services, including educational television and radio, and radio reading services; • administers programs to provide financial and other assistance to educational television and radio and radio reading services. Mission The Broadcast Educational Media Commission seeks to expand the knowledge of Ohio’s citizens through promotion of educational broadcasting products, funding of the state’s public broadcast affiliates and organizations, and collaboration with stakeholders and advocates of technology-driven education.

Ohio House Speaker Jason Stephens appointed Carl Raines of Stockport in Morgan County as a voting member of the BEMC Commission, for a four-year term beginning July 24, 2024, and ending July 23, 2028. Previously, Mr. Raines has served on the Morgan Local School District, New Concord Village Council, and as Mayor of Stockport. Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman appointed Erica Clay of Van Wert in Van Wert County as a voting member of the BEMC Commission. She joins the BEMC Commission for a four-year term beginning October 28, 2024, and ending October 27, 2028. Ms. Clay is succeeding MCOECN CEO Geoffrey Andrews, who is completing his second term on the Commission. Ms. Clay is currently serving as the Director of INFOhio.
