💬 “High quality moulds with miniscule amounts of mismatch means our castings have a very thin parting line,” says Brandon Boose, VP of Operations at BQC Foundry. “There’s far less fettling and grinding required to satisfy our clients’ surface finish requirements which has reduced our labor costs significantly.” “In the old equipment, we would have to put sand in the cope wherever there were pockets,” continues Brandon. “With the DISA MATCH, we just blow the mould. It’s impressive on the intricate pattern designs that we struggled with before too, that’s got a lot easier for us.” Read more about the measurable benefits that BCQ has achieved 👉 https://lnkd.in/dnXAqZSn #foundry #moulding #castings

  • CASE STUDY: SURFACE POROSITIES IN CAST ALUMINUM  We’ve taken significant steps to tackle surface porosities in cast aluminum products made with green sand casting. Many foundries see this issue as an unavoidable by-product, but we saw an opportunity for improvement. We worked with our casting simulation supplier to study porosity formation using simulation modeling in our newest case study.     Surface Porosities in Cast Aluminum Green Sand Products  Author: Paul Snyder, Engineering & Quality Manager    Key Findings  - There is a linear relationship between the solidification time and the amount of hydrogen diffused into the casting's surface.  - Reducing the reactivity of the melt through the reduction of strontium (Sr) Parts Per Million (PPM) can limit the amount of hydrogen diffusion without the use of mold chillers.  - The use of mold chillers promotes a more aggressive solidification rate in areas with extended solidification times created by the casting design.  - Unsightly surface porosity is most effectively remedied through a combination of mold chilling and a lower Sr PPM.    We thoroughly vetted our findings and solved a problem that one of our top customers struggled with for 14 years at another foundry. BQC stops at nothing to produce high-quality castings while solving customer concerns.    For more detailed insights and technical data, see the full case study. Read Now: https://lnkd.in/gEpyM4Bv

  • As BQC continues to look towards the future and how we want to continue our drive in supporting our customers, new HAAS CNC machines continue to be added to the mix. The VM-3 was brought on to support the new work growth with space to be able to add another HAAS CNC machine in the very near future, as we look to adventure into fully machined parts....stay tuned!

  • 5th-grade students experienced metalcasting in their own #FoundryInABox class with BQC Foundry! About 200 students were guided through the sand casting process, where they saw metal poured into molds. On one side of their casting is BQC Foundry’s logo, and on the other is ELCO’s logo.   Investing in the future of foundries doesn’t stop with new technology. Thank you to our team and our community for showcasing metalcasting to our local schools! We are proud of our relationship with local organizations such as ELCO School District. ELCO’s STEM program goes above and beyond to empower young minds to pursue careers in manufacturing.
