❄️ This holiday season, we’re launching Boost your Lingo—a weekly series packed with pro tips to help remote interpreters gear up for 2025. Remote interpreting can feel isolating, but it doesn’t have to be. Connect with other interpreters through LinkedIn’s 'My Network' tab and explore upcoming local associations and 2025 conferences. Just because you work remotely doesn’t mean you have to work alone. #interpreting #remoteinterpreting #boostlingo

The use of children as interpreters in adult situations is a widespread yet deeply problematic practice, fraught with ethical, emotional, and practical concerns. Across the globe, children are often thrust into the role of interpreters for their non-native-speaking parents or guardians, particularly in high-stakes contexts such as healthcare, legal matters, or immigration proceedings. I cant even begin to count the numerous ways that the use of children interpreters is such a bad idea - even when they are intrinsically super keen and motivated to help and support their parents or other adults. The reliance on children for interpreting undermines their rights and well-being while jeopardizing the quality of communication in critical scenarios, making this practice both unethical and impractical. Thankfully we have folks like Carol Velandia, MBA, CHI, PMP, LMSW at the vanguard working towards reducing and ending this practice. Carol joins me on #BoostCast to discuss #unheardvoices. Unheard Voices is a non-profit organization that she leads with a laser focus on this issue in addition to her "day-job"advancing the causes of global language access and language equity. #languageaccess #equalaccesslanguageservices #childinterpreters #languageequity #languagerights #languagejustice
