Today we're helping celebrate meaningful payment reform. The E-Consult Workgroup, a California Health Care Foundation-supported collaborative (of which BluePath Health serves as the administrative backbone), applauds the recent decision by the California Department of Health Care Services to expand reimbursement to cover treating providers’ time spent in conducting e-consults. “The workgroup is thrilled to see that policy is now aligning with reality, appropriately reimbursing treating providers for the essential care they provide,” said Timi Leslie, president of BluePath Health. “This shift will help reduce barriers to e-consult participation, acknowledging the time and effort these providers, which are typically primary care physicians, spend in improving their patients’ access to specialty care.” Libby Sagara Stephanie Thornton

Thank you, Healthcare IT Today for the opportunity to weigh in on the role of telemedicine in enhancing population health. From our own managing director Libby Sagara: “Individuals relying on Medicaid and those who are uninsured find it nearly impossible to access specialty care in a timely manner. This problem is common across both rural and urban settings; across the nation; there are simply not enough specialists to address patients’ needs. Telemedicine, whether it be telephonic, live video or asynchronous, presents options for individuals whose access is limited by their insurance coverage, job and family commitments, or long distances to care.” Read more at the link below.
