MYTH: Black mothers and families are not at high risk for neural tube defects (NTDs) like Spina Bifida. FACT: Black mothers and families face higher risks of NTDs due to systemic racism in healthcare. Barriers like unequal access to prenatal care and proper nutrition make these risks even greater. *What can we do?* ✔ Advocate for equitable prenatal care ✔ Promote access to folic acid and important resources ✔ Support Black mothers through community efforts Addressing these disparities is necessary in creating healthier outcomes for Black mothers and families in Delaware. #BlackMaternalHealth #SupportBlackMothers #ReproductiveJustice #MaternalHealthEquity #HealthyBlackBabies #HealthEquityNow #MaternalHealthMatters #BirthWithoutBias #EquityInCare #EmpowerBlackMothers

#AdvocacyThursdays Did You Know? In Delaware, Black mothers are 3 times more likely to experience pregnancy-related complications compared to their white counterparts. These disparities stem from systemic issues like unequal access to quality healthcare, racism and implicit bias in medical settings. In 2025, we can change this together. Let’s fight for policies in Delaware that prioritize Black maternal health, hold healthcare systems accountable, and empower Black mothers with the care and respect they deserve. Your voice matters. Join us in advocating for change. January is National Birth Defects Prevention Month! In the U.S., 1 in 33 babies is born with a birth defect. For Black mothers and families, systemic racism and unequal access to care make it even harder to prevent and manage these challenges. Steps Black mothers can take: 🍼 Prioritize early and regular prenatal care. 🍎 Follow a balanced diet rich in folic acid. 🩺 Advocate for equitable care and ask questions about your health. Black mothers and families in Delaware deserve equitable care and information. This month, we'll share resources and tips to help prevent birth defects and advocate for policies that address systemic issues in Black maternal and child health. Let's ensure we have the support we need for healthy pregnancies and babies. #BirthDefectsPreventionMonth #BlackMaternalHealth #SupportBlackMothers #HealthEquity

Today, BMIP celebrates Imani (Faith), the seventh and final principle of Kwanzaa. Imani calls on us to believe wholeheartedly in ourselves, our people, and the righteousness of our journey. For Black mothers and families in Delaware, Imani means trusting in the strength of our community, the wisdom of our ancestors, and the future we are building together. It’s about believing in the power of our collective voice to ensure Black mothers are supported, loved, and empowered. As we end Kwanzaa, let’s carry Imani into the new year with faith in our ability to overcome challenges and create real change for those who need it most. #HappyKwanzaa #Imani #Faith #BlackMothersInPower #BlackFamiliesInDelaware #CulturalPride #BlackMaternalHealthMatters #SupportBlackMothers
