Amidst our busy schedules, our team came together to spread joy and make meaningful connections this season. From gathering gifts to support local families in need to rocking our best (and boldest) holiday sweaters to the much-loved Annual Chili Cook-Off, the holiday spirit was alive and well in our Minneapolis office. 🎉 A big congratulations to Kevin Bohl, who was crowned our 2024 Chili Cook-Off Champion! 🏆 These moments of camaraderie and giving back highlight the heart of who we are—building strong relationships and showing up for our community. From all of us at BKBM, we wish you a warm and wonderful holiday season. #BKBMEngineers #HolidayCheer #CommunitySupport #ChiliCookOff #HappyHolidays

A big thanks from BKBM Engineers to Wold Architects and Engineers for continuing our longstanding, successful partnership on this project! Personally, I’d like to thank our team of Brady Shelbourn, P.E., Andrew Morgan, Samuel Wetzel, and Chad College for another great job!
For over 35 years, Wold and ISD 194 have worked hand-in-hand to shape the future of our schools and we would like to feature the new Highview Elementary School in Lakeville, MN! The new building’s design is thoughtfully planned, with educational clusters, flexible learning spaces, STEM, art, and music areas, as well as special education suites—all centered around an open media hub. Public spaces like the gym and cafeteria are positioned for easy access, with security measures for after-hours use. Excited to see the future of education continue to grow! Project Collaboration: Lakeville Area Schools ISD 194, Loeffler Construction & Consulting, Larson Engineering, BKBM Engineers, 3D Response Systems , Rippe Associates, Inc., Kvernstoen, Roonholm & Associates #educationdesign #schooldesign #woldae

🔨#FieldPhotoFriday 🏗️ In partnership with Wold Architects and Engineers and Kraus-Anderson, our team is making impressive progress on the new elementary school in Redwood Falls, MN! This project exemplifies collaboration and ingenuity, thanks to the dedicated efforts of BKBM's team, Samuel Wetzel, Andrew Morgan,Joey Ungemach, and Brady Shelbourn, P.E. The school’s structure is predominantly steel-framed, featuring precast plank floors and a steel joist and deck roof system. For added safety, a storm shelter has been built with precast walls and a precast double-tee roof, providing essential protection for the community. Structural solutions make this project truly stand out: • A steel-braced frame lateral system that provides stability • A cantilevered precast plank over the cafeteria creates a spacious and open feel • Upper-level steel transfer girders to support columns for the high roof, balancing function and aesthetics • Slanted columns at each entrance canopy give the building a modern, dynamic look Each element brought unique design considerations, from coordinating transfer girders with architectural vision to optimizing load distribution for the cantilevered plank. Sam, Andrew, Joey, and Brady rose to the occasion, tackling these complexities to bring this welcoming and resilient space to life for the Redwood Falls community. Fantastic teamwork and problem-solving, team! 👏 #StructuralEngineering #Teamwork #Community #Innovation

At BKBM, our peer-to-peer recognition is rooted in our core values! #Relationships #Responsiveness #Reliability Our recognition ducks have become a familiar sight around the office, appearing in creative and unexpected places—from desks to shelves and even alongside safety gear. Each duck represents a moment when a team member was recognized for embodying one of these core values in their work. At BKBM, we're engineers with a knack for precision—and a knack for FUN! 👻🎃 Our Minneapolis and Denver teams went all out this Halloween, but there's one question on everyone’s mind... "Where's Walda (hint: Tina Wyffels)?" 🕵️♀️🔍 From creative costumes to spooky treats, our team showed up with some serious Halloween spirit! We might spend our days designing structures and solving complex problems, but we know how to enjoy a good mystery and bring the holiday spirit to life. Stay tuned to see who finds Walda first… or maybe she’ll stay hidden till next Halloween! 🎩🧙♀️ #HappyHalloween #EngineersAtPlay #WhereIsWalda #TeamBKBM

Last week, BKBM was actively involved in two exciting industry events, with Samuel Wetzel, Kal Jackman, EIT, Grant Magnuson, and Jack DeGonda representing the team. They started by joining the ACEC/MN group for an exclusive tour of US Bank Stadium, exploring everything from locker rooms to suites and mechanical and electrical systems. Kal and Grant also participated in the American Institute of Steel Construction Steel Days event at the Twin Cities Ironworkers Apprenticeship and Training Center, showcasing BKBM's commitment to elevating our expertise. At BKBM, we foster a culture that encourages professional development and networking. Attending these events helps our team stay at the forefront of industry trends while strengthening valuable relationships. Great work staying active and building connections! 👏 #EngineeringExcellence #ProfessionalDevelopment #IndustryEngagement #BKBMteam #StructuralEngineering #CivilEngineering #AISCSteelDays #ACECMN #NetworkingCulture

We’re excited to announce that Jack DeGonda has joined BKBM as a Structural Design Engineer! 🎉 Jack brings a master's degree in #StructuralEngineering from the University of Minnesota and valuable experience in concrete and steel design from his previous work experience. He’s eager to dive deeper into wood and mass timber design with us at BKBM. His background in physics and diverse experiences—including driving the Zamboni for the hockey team at Gustavus Adolphus College—give him a unique perspective that we know will enrich our projects. Outside of work, Jack’s an outdoor enthusiast—enjoying long-distance running, Nordic skiing, hiking, and camping—and he even runs his own custom sauna business. We’re thrilled to have you on board, Jack! Let’s get to work!
