Excellence Engineered: We’re proud to share that the C Street Addition to the H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse received not one, but two 2024 Engineering Excellence Merit Awards last night from ACEC Metropolitan Washington! Congratulations to AMT Engineering and Loring Consulting Engineers, Inc., both of whom were celebrated for their work on “projects that demonstrate a high degree of achievement, value, and ingenuity” in the DC metro area. This marks the second engineering recognition for the DC Courts expansion, following an Engineering News-Record Mid-Atlantic Regional Best Project Award in the Government/Public Building Category over the summer. Congratulations to the entire project team, with additional thanks to engineering consultants AECOM, Ehlert Bryan Engineering Consulting, and TYLin | Silman Structural Solutions. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has unveiled the design for the Oscar L. and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Wing. Designed by Mexican architect Frida Escobedo—with executive architect Beyer Blinder Belle, Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, and engineering firms Kohler Ronan and Thornton Tomasetti—the wing will provide a new world-class home for the museum’s extraordinary collection of 20th and 21st-century art. Set to open in 2030, the new project will increase gallery space by nearly 50 percent and address important accessibility, infrastructure, and sustainability needs. Drawing inspiration from the Museum’s architectural legacy, diverse art holdings, and setting within Central Park, Taller Frida Escobedo’s design seamlessly blends tradition with modernity, bringing the modern and contemporary collection into new dialogues with the rest of the Museum. Way to go, Katherine Hummelt!
On Thursday, November 21st, in celebration of the historic DACOR Bacon House’s bicentennial in 2025, we hosted Lina Mann, John DeFerrari, @Frank Leone, and Katherine Hummelt for a discussion moderated by DACOR Bacon House Historian Terry Walz on “The President’s Neighborhood: Two Dozen Blocks, Two Blockbuster Centuries.” The speakers discussed how the President’s Neighborhood has changed over the years, highlighting the key periods within the city that resulted in a lot of changes in architectural style. They wrapped up the talk with a discussion of how DACOR Bacon House fit into the changes in fashion over the time period. Members can watch this program on the DACOR website to learn more! #dacorbacon #DCHouseMuseums #dbhbicentennial #presidentsneighborhood #washingtondc #WashingtonHistory
