  • Solidarity builds stronger teams. Today is International Human Solidarity Day, so it's a great time to reflect on how unity and collaboration are key to achieving great things at work and beyond. BetterUp data shows that most employees need five friendly colleagues to feel connected and seven to feel they belong. Connection isn’t one-size-fits-all, but when leaders create environments where authentic relationships thrive, teams unite, and organizations succeed. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gFgazADD How are you fostering solidarity in your workplace?

  • Promoting top-performing individual contributors to management roles without proper development can lead to challenges. Research indicates that 50% of new managers fail within their first year. These individuals often lag behind average managers in key areas: strategic planning, authenticity, coaching skills, and recognition. Ineffective management negatively impacts performance, retention, motivation, productivity, and belonging. Laszlo Bock, BetterUp advisor, co-founder of Humu, a Perceptyx Company, and former CHRO at Google, cites Gallup data that estimates poor management costs US companies at least $960 billion annually. However, new managers can bridge this "greatness gap" with targeted coaching. Data shows that within six months of coaching, newly promoted managers can outperform average managers, achieving: ⚡24% increase in problem-solving ⚡20% increase in coaching skills ⚡16% increase in authenticity ⚡15% increase in recognition ⚡12% greater productivity Investing in leadership development transforms top individual contributors into effective leaders, benefiting the entire organization. https://lnkd.in/gMiW38hq

⚡ The key to the future of work? 🔐 Unlocking the human side of AI. GenAI can potentially add $10.3 trillion to the global economy—but only if we empower people to embrace it with confidence, optimism, and purpose. Success isn’t just about smarter technology—it’s about cultivating the mindsets that enable people to adapt, thrive, and lead in this transformative era. • The power of connection at work is undeniable. 🌟 BetterUp Labs studied 3,000+ US workers, 150,000 BetterUp Members, and 78 leading companies between 2021 and 2024 to uncover what workplace connection truly means today. Connection has two dimensions: the size of your network and the quality of those relationships—fostering belonging, collaboration, and friendship. The impact? Employees highly connected to their peers experience: 📈 +91% more personal growth 📈 +101% more professional growth Let’s build workplaces where connection drives growth, fulfillment, and success. https://lnkd.in/gFgazADD

  • Innovator’s Bias—our tendency to overestimate the benefits of ideas we’re invested in—is a real liability. This bias can cloud judgment, derail strategic planning, and lead to less effective innovation. The solution? BetterUp Labs found that imagining the worst-case scenario helps combat bias without killing enthusiasm. When leaders model clear-eyed confidence and realistic optimism, they create space for their teams to innovate with clarity and resilience. Leaders need more than optimism to innovate effectively in a rapidly changing world—they need future-mindedness. BetterUp Labs’ research shows that: 🔹 Teams led by future-minded leaders are 18% more innovative 🔹 Future-mindedness improves agility by 25% and performance by 18% How are you preparing your team to navigate the future? https://lnkd.in/gYiZAMdz

  • 🚀 The skills of tomorrow’s managers are evolving — and it’s all about people. While strategic planning and alignment remain important, BetterUp research highlights four emerging skills essential for motivating teams, inspiring growth, and driving higher performance: 👩🏫 Coaching skills: Ask questions, offer support, and facilitate development. 🎉 Recognition: Celebrate contributions and promote a sense of belonging. 🌟 Authenticity: Lead with empathy and respect to foster trust and psychological safety. 🧠 Problem-solving: Tackle challenges creatively and help remove blockers. The takeaway? It’s time to embrace the role of a manager coach and prioritize the skills that elevate team connection and performance. https://lnkd.in/gy2ZZNVG

Thank you to our panelists, attendees and event sponsor SHRM for making last night's Newsweek Horizons event a success! The panel was moderated by Newsweek Workplaces Editor Aman Kidwai and featured remarks from SHRM CHRO Jim Link and Newsweek executive editor Jennifer H. Cunningham. The evening, titled "Better Workplaces: How to Foster Inclusion and Civility," brought together a panel of medical, legal and social psychology experts to discuss the dicey issue of talking politics at work. At the end of the event, Newsweek and the Stubblefield Institute, which focuses on increasing the civility of political communications, announced the recipients of the 2024 Civility Awards, which honored individuals and organizations that prioritized respectful discourse in Washington, D.C., and beyond.
