Earlier this month, the Cleveland office hosted a successful writing workshop in partnership with Cleveland State University’s Black Law Students Association. The event was designed to help students prepare for the upcoming interview season by refining their legal writing skills. The session was led by CSU professor and Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio Margaret Sweeney. She guided students through an interactive training on drafting memos and briefs and provided essential tips for legal writing. Benesch Labor & Employment Partner Steven Moss played a key role in representing the Austin American-Statesman--a major daily newspaper for Austin, TX owned by USA TODAY publisher Gannett--in negotiations with the Austin NewsGuild. After more than three years of bargaining, the parties reached a tentative agreement on a first labor contract between the Statesman and its front-line journalists. This agreement, which followed a 21-hour marathon session with a federal mediator, is a major milestone for the Statesman team, including reporters, photographers, columnists, producers and planners, who ratified the contract on November 21. The following attorneys assisted Steven Moss with Benesch’s successful defense and resolution of numerous unfair labor practice charges filed by the Austin NewsGuild with the National Labor Relations Board: Adam Primm, Joe Blalock, Thomas Jackson and Hannah Kraus.
