  • Demonstration Plant at Rialto, California –  Innovative Wastewater & Nano-bubble Technology for Potable Water Reuse Simultaneous Nitrification Denitrification (SND) and Nano-Bubbles for Potable Reuse of Wastewater This Demonstration Pilot Project is in the City of Rialto at the existing wastewater treatment plant. The SWRCB (State Water Resources Control Board) provided a grant under the Water Recycling Funding Program for a pilot project.   • BDP® - AERATION TECHNOLOGY Spotted conventional aeration systems, such discs, tube or panel aerators, often create dead zones or corners. In contrast, BDP's carpet like aeration ensures uniform coverage, preventing these issues. BDP’s design eliminates the column effect seen in conventional systems. The fine bubbles stay separate and reach the surface without merging into larger bubbles, moving at a slower velocity. This increased surface contact with the liquid enhances oxygen transfer efficiency (OTE), as verified by off-gas testing technology. Slower up flow velocity results in longer residence time with higher SOTE and OTE in-situ. The residence time of the bubbles within the water enables more oxygen being transferred to the water.   • BDP® - AERATION TECHNOLOGY One of the keys to BDP’s excellent performance in new or upgraded WWTPs is the aeration technology. It is manufactured in California with diffusers closely spaced on the basin floor. With the uniform “carpet” aeration, this results in a very high in situ OTE. The diffusers also have a much longer life, in fact more than twice the conventional aerators. Over a period of 10 years, only 7 % of diffusers in over 65 plants have needed to be replaced.   • BDP “All-in-One Basin” WWTP – Homogeneous Mix Liqueur Created by Hydraulic Re-Circulation The BDP EnviroTech “All-in-One Basin” wastewater treatment technology, is a modified activated sludge process and a continuous nitrification/denitrification with a partly nitrate shortcut. In a conventional wastewater treatment system, the secondary clarifier Is quite separate and independent of the aeration section. As a result, the liqueur passes from the aeration section to the secondary clarifier via piping. Subsequent to this there is sludge re-circulation via the Return Activated Sludge (RAS) piping back to the front mixing with Influent to the biological process aeration section. The significant difference with the BDP system is that the aeration section and the clarification section are combined together in the one basin. Also there is re-circulation of all the mix liqueur. In a municipal plant this circulation can be 20 times the flow rate. The purpose of this, is to form a uniform and homogeneous mixture and into which  the incoming influent is diluted. The benefit of this Is shown in the two graphs below. In the conventional system, over the length of the basin there is a high variability of COD. Whereas in the BDP system, there is a very homogeneous liqueur with the COD being much more uniform. This enables a highly efficient oxygen transfer efficiency. BDP has successfully used this technology globally in 68 plants.

  • Bio-film Around Bacteria Flocs with High and Low DO Levels Independant researchers have compared the bio-film around wastewater treatment plant floc with high DO levels (e.g. conventional plants) and low DO levels (e.g. BDP Process plants). It is interesting to note that with low DO, the bio-film is much thinner. As a result air is able to penetrate the floc much more readily, resulting in a higher oxygen transfer efficiency.
