When I started my last job search, I was SHOCKED by how much MORE companies were willing to pay me. If I had not done my research ahead of time, I would’ve left thousands on the table when negotiating. That’s life changing money! If you’re not informed on your market value and negotiating, you’re absolutely most definitely selling yourself short during your job search. You’re worth your market salary even if you were laid off, have employment gaps, or are younger than others in your role. And if you accidentally blurt out the wrong number in an interview and slip up, it’s really hard to come back from that and ask for more. So you need to be prepared and do your research BEFORE going into the conversation! My favorite tool is the Robert Half salary calculator because it makes it SO EASY to check the market salary for any role and location. In 2024, 36% of adults have a side hustle, and this number is even higher for Gen Z at 48%! And over 1/3 of side-hustlers report spending 10-20 hours a week on it, but the average income is $891/month. People report having a side hustle to purse passions, pay off debt, and have discretionary income— which we all know is important in today’s economy. The reason why I’ve chosen to have a side hustle is to have a creative escape from my technical 9-5 job because I really enjoy making content, being silly, and being plugged into the social media community as much as I enjoy coding all day. And my silly little side hustle has turned into multiple 6-figures in the first year so it’s quite literally changed my life.
