Victoria’s restaurant industry is raising the alarm over the potential impacts of a rushed gas phase-out. With the cost of living crisis already squeezing small businesses, Wes Lambert warns that even the smallest kitchens could face retrofitting costs of $30,000–$40,000 just for equipment. “These are costs many businesses simply can’t afford, especially at a time when margins are tighter than ever,” Wes explains. The hospitality sector, a cornerstone of Victoria’s economy, could face serious challenges if these changes are not carefully planned and supported.
