If you are looking for something to read during the weekend, then the October issue ( 🍂 🍁 🎃 ) of Trends in Molecular Medicine is now online! In this issue most of the articles focus on animal models and their role advancing disease research! Find the link to the issue in the first comment !
A big thanks goes to all the authors and reviewers for their contributions! And I am happy to receive your feedback and ideas for topics and articles so please get in touch here or by email! 😀
Before delving into the content, a big shout out goes to Alison Zou from Vanderbilt University for designing this month's cover through the VI4 Artist-in-Residence Program with ArtLab Studio ! Amazing work thank you Alison!
The articles focusing on animal models have something for everyone!
🍂 Opinion article on glial lipid dysregulation and sleep disturbances in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and the insights gained from Drosophila research (our favourite fruit fly),
🍂 Opinion article for using non-traditional models as research tools and how scientists should not consider only mice, one of the mainstream models in biomedical research.
🍂 Review articles:
- on zebrafish, pancreatic development, regeneration and diabetes,
- on pig models that have been instrumental in Duchenne muscular dystrophy research and clinical studies,
- on preclinical models (mainly mice!) and their use to study vaccine-based immunotherapy against glioma.
🍂 Spotlight article on a recent study in naked mole rats shedding light on cardiac ischemic injuries.
The non-animal models articles are a review article on LRRK2 and its role in Parkinson’s disease and a forum article on lessoned learned from past and ongoing HIV-1 vaccine clinical trials.
Lastly, the TrendsTalk takes you this time to Angers in France, and then to Minnesota and Connecticut in USA thanks to Olivier, Alon and Yulan sharing their scientific journey!
