Well this is great news!! Bisnow article reporting that the Mayor is backing down from the $300 million dollar tax increase. This will help the commercial real estate industry breath a sigh of relief. Hopefully help retain and attract new businesses who we’re concerned about the proposed tax increase. https://lnkd.in/g5ywiFDq

As a board member of The Salvation Army North & Central Illinois Division I, along with my daughter Ashley, were honored to be guests at the annual William Booth Society dinner. As part of the panel our board Chair Brian A. Bernardoni along with members of the Army described the mission and needs of this great program. It is getting colder out and our neighbors that are unhoused and facing food insecurity need our help. There is much work to be done but as my in laws say, “Many hands make for lighter work” This season if you’re looking for a way to give back let me know and I can point you to where you can serve or when you pass the bell ringers outside of the grocery store with the red kettle….I promise you - your donation goes to a great causes and charity providing opportunity for those in need .

The Bisnow Chicago State of the Market event was informative and inspiring. The overall take away was that Chicago is in a much stronger place than what the national news projects. If you draw a 2 mile ring around City Hall, Chicago has the fastest growing urban core nationally. Also, Chicago’s multi family vacancy is below the national average. This is a great city to live and work in and has so much to offer residents and businesses. #chicagorealestate #chicago #commercialrealestate @bisnow

Here's some information from Bisnow. Mayor Johnson is proposing a $300M Property Tax increase in the 2025 budget. This would mean property owners would see a 4% increase in taxes over 2023. Taxes are already a strain on businesses in cook county and the CRE community overall. Quote from article - "Concern from the CRE community that the city's tax environment is stifling investment in Chicago was already high before the proposed tax increase. Chicago CRE professionals ranked property taxes as the city's second-greatest near-term challenge behind safety, according to a midyear sentiment report released last month by the Real Estate Center at DePaul University and the Urban Land Institute's Chicago District Council. Taxes and pensions were the CRE professionals' greatest long-term concerns"

Chicago Association of REALTORS® open house event tonight was a success. As a member of the Commercial Forum Committee I spoke to members looking to gain more information on how to have a career or further their career in commercial real estate. I loved getting to talk to people at all levels of their career. CAR is an invaluable resource for all real estate professionals.
