(En)vision boarding our way into 2025...May the new year bring us closer to a world without youth punishment and family policing! ✨ Big thanks to all of our partners, including those on our Movement Partner Advisory Council, who convened with us back in September to connect and imagine: Opportunity Youth United, Legal Rights Center, DREAM DEFENDERS, Communities for Just Schools Fund (CJSF), Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ), JMACforFamilies, Freedom Community Center, Darla Perez-Chavez, Youth First Justice Collaborative, Movement for Family Power, RISE for Youth. Last month, while in St. Louis attending Race Forward's Facing Race conference, our team had the opportunity to witness our partners at Freedom Community Center and Action St. Louis organize with their St. Louis community to call for accountability, transparency, and human decency after deaths at the city's jail. This is what the powerful reimagining of justice looks like!

Civil rights groups are challenging a judge in Durham, NC who is blocking these groups from observing court proceedings where children are being separated from their families. Our partner #OperationStopCPS is one of those groups: “The majority of children coming into custody, it’s because of poverty-related concerns. If the public just came and sat inside the courtroom, they’d see—wait, so this child was taken away because the parent didn’t have childcare? Can we not figure that out without giving their child to somebody else?” https://lnkd.in/ehMqp2qd

As G4GC honors #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth this November, we reflect on the power of the Indigenous youth who are part of our community. This past June, our New Songs Rising Fellows gathered in the Pueblo of Isleta in New Mexico to embark on the New Songs Rising Initiative (NSRI)'s first participatory grantmaking process, where they built solidarity and refined their leadership skills. This month we're sharing insights from our fellows, such as what inspires them, what they're proud of, and what advice they would give their younger selves. Stay tuned for more videos throughout November! Learn more about our New Songs Rising Fellows and their participatory grantmaking process at g4gc.org/nsrf2024
