Radically improving access + outcomes for specialty care
About us
AndHealth works with the healthcare system to radically improve access and outcomes for the most challenging chronic health conditions, by providing culturally competent whole-person specialty care and pharmacy in a partnership model that creates greater health equity for patients, lower costs for the healthcare system, and growth for existing providers. Community Health Centers (CHCs), Health Systems, employers, and plans work with AndHealth to provide high-quality and accessible whole-person specialty care that helps people get their lives back from chronic disease. Together with its partners, AndHealth enables a community based virtual and on-premises healthcare delivery system to address the nationwide specialty care access crisis—while giving patients support for Social Drivers of Health (SDOH). Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, AndHealth is led by former CoverMyMeds co-founder and CEO Matt Scantland and the team that helped grow healthcare technology company CoverMyMeds from inception to its $1.4 billion acquisition by McKesson in 2017 and is supported by key investors including the American Medical Association’s innovation subsidiary, Francisco Partners, and the state of Ohio’s economic development organization.

Patients in rural counties often face considerable drive times and wait lists of 6 months or more to see a specialist. AndHealth has partnered with MVHC to help bring specialty care closer to home for people in Muskingum, Morgan, Guernsey, and Coshocton counties. “This partnership represents our commitment to providing rural Ohioans with the best possible care in a manner that is affordable and close to home,” said Dan Atkinson, CEO of MVHC. “There is a deep need for specialty care and specialty medications within our communities and we are proud to partner with AndHealth to help address it.” We are honored to partner with MVHC and to bring Whole-Person Specialty Care to Southeast Ohio.

On Monday The Columbus Dispatch shined a light on the growing problem of pharmacy deserts in our nation. “Approximately 46% of U.S. counties have at least one or more pharmacy deserts, defined as 10-mile radius without a retail pharmacy. This means many Americans lack reasonable access to prescribed medications and other health services — something that afflicts at least 15 communities in Ohio, according to the study.” Aside from retail pharmacies, nearly 2/3 of independent pharmacies share they are at risk of going out of business in the coming year. The Dispatch cited that communities within pharmacy deserts also face a shortage of Primary Care Providers. Despite access to providers and pharmacies continuing to decline, the need for coordinated patient-centered care continues to grow. More than half of American adults are now living with at least one chronic disease and benefit most when supported by a team of providers, specialists, and pharmacists who work together on their care. Managing chronic diseases demands a shift from acute care to a more integrated, preventive, and patient-centered approach. This requires coordinated efforts across healthcare, policy, and community services to improve outcomes and reduce the burden on the healthcare system. Our thanks to Samantha Hendrickson and the Dispatch for raising awareness of this important issue and to our CHC and Health Systems partners for continuing to find new ways to address these challenges, remove barriers to health, and to better support patients in need.

Community Health Centers are critical to our healthcare system and collectively share the vision of making healthcare a human right for all. Learn more about their history below 👇
Join us this National Health Center Week in reflecting on the inspiring history of Community Health Centers, which have their roots in the Civil Rights Movement and War on Poverty of the 1960s. Visionary community activists and reform-minded physicians established the first Community Health Centers in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, and Boston to fight poverty, advance health equity, and empower communities. In the process, they launched a national movement. Today, health centers are the largest primary care network in the United States, serving 32.5 million patients nationwide. Learn more history in this short video and in the links below in the comments. recounts the early history of health centers, founded as a bold experiment to bring healthcare to the nation’s overlooked rural and urban communities. #ValueCHCs #HealthEquity #NHCW24

Today is Patient Appreciation Day for National Health Center Week and we’d like to introduce you to Connie and Suzie. Connie has Ankylosing Spondylitis and struggled to balance her busy life with her painful symptoms. She realized she needed support outside of herself to address her condition and said, “I knew when I read about whole-person specialty care that it was the answer. It was a way to bring medication and lifestyle support together, so I didn’t feel like I had to do it all alone.” When Connie met Suzie and her AndHealth care team, she knew she was no longer alone and in the span of just a few months has had the support and encouragement she needed to improve her condition. She shared, “It was amazing to see how much of a difference it made. I began to have more energy and less pain when I woke up in the morning. I could do things I didn’t feel capable of doing before and really started feeling like I had a handle on my day-to-day life. It has met my expectations and beyond to the point where I feel like I’m not just a consideration in my healthcare, but I am a direct part of the process. You can’t ask for much better than that.” More than 31.5 million patients seek care from CHCs every year, and it’s our honor to be a part of their care. Our patients inspire and motivate us to go above-and-beyond in support of their health objectives every day. We live for moments like this, when we can proudly stand alongside our patients and recognize their accomplishments. Our congratulations to Connie and to all health center patients that are reaching new milestones in their health. #ValueCHCs #HealthEquity #NHCW24 #LiveAND

It’s an honor to be featured within AndHealth's exhibition of portraits entitled Community of Healing: Portraits from the Whole-Person Specialty Care Movement by Columbus photographer Tariq Tarey. This gallery showcases patients and advocates, sharing inspirational stories of overcoming chronic illness through fully integrated specialty care. Whole-Person Specialty Care is rooted in the acknowledgement that health is a human right and provides all people access to the comprehensive medical and lifestyle support they need to be well. As Ohio's Community Health Centers know, when we radically improve access to care, address social drivers of health, and support patients’ personal agency in their pursuit of health, we can eliminate the disparate health outcomes we’ve seen for far too long. Community of Healing is free of charge and open to the public through August 8th. Visit the link below to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gsKUmJB6

It’s National Health Center Week and we are proud to celebrate the nation's 1,400 Community Health Centers (CHCs) that are dedicated to making health a human right for all. Collectively, CHCs make up the nation’s largest primary care network and are uniquely positioned to provide critical services in a community setting while addressing the Social Drivers of Health that can dramatically impact outcomes. The innovation, resiliency, and passion of CHCs have enabled them to offer high quality, whole-person care to the 1 in 3 Americans in need of their services. This week we honor CHCs, their patients, staff, board members, and communities, and are honored to partner with them to expand access and improve health outcomes. #ValueCHCs #HealthEquity #NHCW24 #LiveAND
