2024 Recap On my flight to Montreal, on a small plane with no seat TVs, I suddenly disconnected from the internet, and I found myself wondering what to do. After some reflection, I realized it's a perfect time for my 2024 recap. 2024 was special—though we have a few days left, I'll use the past tense. After leaving Astrana Health, I took a brief break. Being restless, I soon launched mimilabs, an extension of my hobby and data-related LinkedIn posts, aiming to explore small projects often overlooked in large corporations. Initially, I thought many would want to explore data and share findings like me – perhaps I could help them become more vocal on LinkedIn - was too optimistic. People seemed hesitant to share publicly, viewing my work as requiring special skills. While I may have some, I believe these skills are readily learnable, especially with AI. So, I pivoted first to engage data leaders who were more comfortable exploring datasets. I connected with many people, reconnecting with old friends and colleagues and meeting new people through LinkedIn and other communities. Some knew me, others didn't, but all shared interesting ideas. After quiet April, May, and summer family travels, fall and winter brought various business opportunities. mimilabs became a Databricks partner in September and began accepting individual members (thanks to Zack Moore and Danielle Ruppel). Our community thrives with curious minds, and our dataset range and volume grew substantially. As more individuals discovered the platform's value, word spread. Several companies now want to use mimilabs as a reference data warehouse, mirroring our data to their enterprise data lakehouse for augmentation and enrichment. We'll officially launch our enterprise offering next year. As I had more time this year, I could attend and speak at various conferences, seminars, and podcasts. Some of these include: - Emory University - Goizueta Business School, Business Analytics Conference (thanks to Scott Radcliffe and Ramnath (Ram) Chellappa) - Project ECHO, re: Value-Based Care Dashboard (thanks to Daniel Crowe, MD, FACP) - YHLS by Advancement League (thanks to Chris Hemphill and Antwan D. Williams) - Health Datapalooza by AcademyHealth (thanks to Aneesh Chopra) - A podcast by Keebler Health (thanks to Isaac Park) - Health Tech Talk Show (thanks to Kat Kovalchik McDavitt and Lisa B.) - Informatics Education - Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Grand Roun ds (thanks to Joe Mercado, Paul Nagy, and Nic Dobbins, PhD) Supported: - Stanford Health Design Challenge (thanks to Julia Lin) - Uno Health AJMC - The American Journal of Managed Care opinion article (thanks to Anna De Paula Hanika and Tim Murray) What a year. It began peacefully, then returned to busy days. Next year will be even busier – I can feel it. With many plans for mimilabs and new companies launching, I can't wait to get started. BTW, my biggest achievement in 2024 was installing AstroTurf in our backyard!

As we begin 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on the year we just closed. 2024 was a year of tremendous progress for Covera Health, marked by recognitions that celebrate the dedication and hard work of our team, partners, and the broader radiology community. Among them: ✅ Being named a 2024 Inc. Magazine's #BestInBusiness, a recognition of the impact we’re making to advance radiology quality and improve patient outcomes. ✅ Securing a spot on Inc. Magazine's 5000 list of fastest-growing companies. ✅ Being recognized as a Digital Health New York (DHNY) 100 company for the fifth consecutive year! ✅ Publishing two pivotal pieces of work in the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) peer reviewed journal and the AJMC - The American Journal of Managed Care: 📖 Improving the Reliability of Peer Review Without a Gold Standard. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/e-tKvTsC 📖 In the Shift to Value, We Can’t Afford to Leave Radiology Behind. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eX4dug7S While these are certainly worth celebrating, they’re not the hard work itself—they recognize the underlying, day-to-day work of many. That work involves: ✅ The dedicated efforts of our teammates who work tirelessly to advance our mission and move our vision closer to reality, making it possible for all of us—and our loved ones—to experience the best healthcare when it’s needed most. ✅ Partnering with radiology practices to advance our shared goal of decommoditizing radiology and demonstrating its true value amidst workforce shortages and rising patient volumes. ✅ Collaborating with forward-thinking employers and health plans to ensure patients have access to programs rooted in quality radiology, giving them the most accurate diagnosis and best possible outcome. ✅ Leveraging AI for population health, focusing on early detection of significant illnesses and diseases, particularly in areas like senior care and women’s health, which have been largely overlooked. As we look to 2025, I’m filled with gratitude for everyone who has joined us in this mission—our team, partners, and the radiology community. Together, we’re building a future where quality radiology is the foundation of better patient care and outcomes. Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and successful new year! Here’s to continuing the work ahead. #BestInBusiness #ValueBasedCare #Radiology #PeerLearning #HealthcareInnovation #PatientOutcomes Richard K.J. Bravo to our vice president of pharmacy, Terra Wonsettler, Pharm.D., MBA, whose article on “fast-track” oncology therapies was the second most-read article in AJMC - The American Journal of Managed Care’s Evidence-Based Oncology in 2024. In her piece, Terra dove into the history of the FDA’s accelerated approval process, which gives patients access to promising therapies while confirmatory trials are ongoing to verify clinical benefit, like helping patients live longer. Yet these trials typically take years, are often delayed, and sometimes do not demonstrate clinical benefit in the end. Terra highlights what providers, the FDA and health plans can do to help educate patients and manage the inherent uncertainty of unproven drugs.
