The Community Care Fund is a vital resource for patients in need, offering immediate support when it’s needed most. This initiative provides financial relief to patients facing challenges like food insecurity, housing instability, and medical expenses. Transportation barriers often make trips to the grocery store or picking up meals a daunting task for many of our patients. Thanks to community partners like DoorDash and their Community Credit program, we’ve been able to provide gift cards to 100 community members to help purchase meals for their families. Together, we’re building a stronger, healthier community where everyone has access to the food they need.

From the very beginning, AltaMed has championed the belief that health care is a human right. For 55 years, this principle has guided every step we’ve taken to provide equitable, accessible care. Today, on #HumanRightsDay, we’re proud to reaffirm this commitment to the communities we serve—because everyone deserves the care they need, when they need it. #OurRightsOurFutureRightNow

"Those who have been most impacted by politics through their body, their livelihoods, their safety, their pocket books – are not involved in the political system that is clearly very involved with them." Congratulations to Lizette Escobedo and the entire My Vote. My Health. team on a historic season and bringing a passion project to over 1.6 million voters!
20+ years of Civic Engagement, Issue Campaigns, Social Justice programs, and Latino politics.. and everything in between. Experienced leader.
When we initially came up with what some saw as this crazy idea of incorporating civic health in our approach to whole person health, many questioned why AltaMed was involved in this work. However, we understood, if not for AltaMed, our patients who suffered most from health related ailments and were most closely impacted by social determinants of health – would never be approached by a candidate, campaign, or organization to receive the invitation to vote. Those who have been most impacted by politics through their body, their livelihoods, their safety, their pocket books – are not involved in the political system that is clearly very involved with them. This is how and why this passion project called My Vote. My Health. was born - it was out of the desire to do more to address health injustices in a systematic and transformational way not through a singular bill or policy proposal but through the opportunity to revolutionize who is at the table in our democracy. In 2021, when I was approached by AltaMed to lead this effort within my first week, I understood that our effort was not to simply meet the moment but to build a movement. Within my first month, I thought to myself “imagine if we could do this statewide? Imagine if we could do this work nationally?” -- Thanks to our community health center partners, CBO, CPCA, and regional CHC consortias, the dream to take My Vote. My Health. Statewide not only became a reality but exceeded all expectations. Our collective efforts helped reach over 1.6 million voters in the communities we collectively serve via in-clinic, doors, phones, texts, mail, voter education town halls, white coat canvassing, press conferences, webinars, social media, broadcast media, and some of you even hosted vote centers for the first time ever! So today we rest and recharge, and tomorrow we work. Onward to 2026! Special shoutout to our philanthropic partners who believed in this vision, moment, movement — The California Endowment, Latino Community Foundation, California Health Care Foundation, California Community Foundation

Recently, our employee volunteers and their friends packed 1,200 Kozy Kits full of winter essentials to help those in need across Los Angeles and Orange counties. Each kit is filled with items to bring comfort and warmth to individuals and families in our communities who are experiencing homelessness or are in need of blankets and winter essentials. A special thanks to the City of Anaheim and their Devote employee giving program. Thanks to a generous donation, we were able to increase the number of kits handed out this winter. AltaMed Gives, our employee-led giving program, is all about uplifting our communities and giving back. This winter, each Kozy Kit is a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Congratulations to AltaMed Health Services President and CEO Cástulo de la Rocha on this incredible accomplishment!
A Full-Circle Moment: Today, I’m reflecting on someone who has deeply inspired my career. His guidance, wisdom, and support shaped who I am today. As a young Chicano activist, I admired Dionicio Morales from afar. He was a trailblazer who fought segregation, opened doors for Latinos, and showed us the power of celebrating our Mexicanidad. As I began my journey in health care, imagine my surprise when I unexpectedly received a call from his office. In fact, Dionicio was one of the first people to offer me guidance. He became my mentor – teaching me the importance of advocacy, leadership, and staying true to my roots. His legacy inspires my commitment to social justice and equity every day. I’m deeply humbled to have received the Dionicio Morales Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF). Mil gracias to MAOF for carrying his mission forward and for this incredible honor. Let’s continue fighting, let’s continue advocating, and let’s continue making a difference in our communities.
