Chief Executive Officer @ Alliance for Advanced Sanitation | Agricultural Development, Manufacturing Process Improvement
Recent news might make you wonder about food manufacturing standards and what they are. It is important to note that bad news is often the exception, not the norm. There are indeed standards for growing agricultural products, irrigating, manufacturing, transporting, labeling, standards of identity for specific foods, standards for pieces of equipment, facilities, water, and air, and so much more. Here's my brief article about some of the standards employed in ensuring that the VAST MAJORITY of all food is indeed safe. Ensuring Your Safety, Every Step of the Way: The Role of Standards, Audits, and Conformity Assessments in the Design of Food Manufacturing Facilities https://lnkd.in/gqZzq4Gr

Absolutely loved speaking at today's event in Bogotá. The urgency for innovative solutions to address plastic pollution and its impact on both the environment and human health is undeniable. With climate change intensifying these effects, the need to act is now. Historically, there's often a lag between recognizing a problem and making the necessary changes to improve outcomes. While regulations aren't always the answer, the diverse global perspectives on policy mean this challenge will persist longer than it should. For example the first clinical study that demonstrated that Lead was toxic to humans and led to poor cognitive performance in children was published in 1969. The first ban on lead occurred in 1986 (Japan) and Algeria was the last country to ban lead in gasoline (2021). The solution to plastic pollution has three dimensions for success: Innovation, Standards, Regulation. A big shoutout to the audience for their excellent questions—truly made the presentation worthwhile!
