About us

The Akron Art Museum, dedicated to enriching lives through modern and contemporary art, showcases regional, national and international art created since 1850. The museum’s collection is presented in a spectacular facility designed by Viennese architectural firm Coop Himmelb(l)au and includes over 5,000 works of art, with a strong focus on contemporary painting, sculpture and photography. Nearly a dozen exhibitions each year present prominent artists in various media including painting, sculpture, photography, video, design and glass. The museum also presents temporary art experiences in the Bud and Susie Rogers Garden, a one-acre green space along the museum's south side, designed by renowned landscape architects, OLIN. In addition to its ever-changing collection and exhibitions, the museum offers many opportunities to Live Creative through programs that include films and video, lectures, workshops, tours and concerts.

  • Congratulations to Tracy! Tracy is currently the Vice-Chair of the Museum's Board of Directors!

Congratulations to Tracy Burt, our vice president of marketing and communications, for being selected as a 2024 Notable Leader in Communications by Crain's Cleveland Business. This distinction honors top communications leaders in Northeast Ohio who have made a significant contribution to their industry or community. In her senior leadership role at Akron Community Foundation, Tracy drives the marketing strategy for the foundation and its nearly 900 charitable funds. Her work has been critical to the execution of the community foundation’s strategic plan and its more donor-centric approach, allowing the foundation to reach new audiences through tailored communications to individuals, advisors and nonprofits. Tracy has also elevated our brand, making Akron Community Foundation a place where people from all walks of life can build a lasting legacy. Most recently, Tracy was instrumental in creating the foundation’s new mission, vision and values statements, positioning the community foundation as a champion and generator of enduring philanthropy within Greater Akron. Outside of work, Tracy’s volunteerism has benefited some of Akron’s most well-known nonprofit organizations, including the Akron Art Museum, where she currently serves as vice chair. Tracy has also helped to expand emergency housing for young adults by supporting the marketing efforts of Harmony House and has enhanced intervention services for people in crisis by volunteering with Victim Assistance Program. Additionally, Tracy serves on the Greater Akron Chamber Diversity Professionals Council and is a founding partner of The Soul of Philanthropy Akron. She is also a graduate of Leadership Akron Class 38. Tracy and all this year’s winners are featured in today’s issue of Crain’s Cleveland Business. To read more, visit https://lnkd.in/gagb9dHK.

  • A piece of art from the Akron Art Museum’s Creative Aging Institute was featured on CBS’ Sunday Morning Show! Jane Fonda and age activist Ashton Applewhite, who recently spoke at the Museum’s Creative Aging Institute, highlight the power of creative aging programings and pushing back against aging stereotypes. The collaborative wall hanging, made from plastic waste by 14 CAI participants, was created with artist Ron Shelton during our Non-Traditional Materials workshop in the Fall of 2023, (look for it just to the left of Ashton’s head). • Please welcome Jenny Gerow as the new Chief Curator of the Akron Art Museum! 🎉🎨 Jenny officially started last week and brings a wealth of experience and a visionary approach to contemporary art. Jenny’s impressive background includes nearly two decades of managing and curating exhibitions, with a strong focus on digital and photographic media. Her work at BRIC in Brooklyn, New York, spanned ten years, where she championed innovative approaches to showcasing contemporary artists, particularly those exploring the intersections of technology, identity, and storytelling through photography and new media. In her role as Chief Curator, Gerow will lead the Museum's curation and collections team, which includes Senior Curator Dr. Jeff Katzin, Curator Wendy Earle, and Collections Manager and Exhibitions Registrar Stephanie Petcavage.
