Tribal self-determination in action! Great work in supporting your tribal citizens!
Recently, proceeds generated from the Copper River companies enabled the Native Village of Eyak (NVE) to provide funds to the Cordova School District to ensure the district will be able to maintain its extracurricular activities and free lunches for the next school year. The school district’s budget was cut significantly putting extracurricular activities, free lunches, and teacher staffing at risk. Thanks to the funds from NVE, the school district will be able to overcome a significant portion of the budget deficit to support these programs. It is the shared mission of the Copper River Family of Companies to diversify the NVE’s ability to facilitate economic advancement. The income generated from our companies helps the NVE fund health and social services, economic development, natural resource/environmental education, jobs, job training, and other benefits to the NVE in a manner that is consistent with Alaskan Native cultural values and traditions. Alaska continues to have one of the highest rates which is devastating for our communities and our families. For the Indigenous in Alaska, this adds one more layer of trauma upon existing wounds that cannot heal.
