The AHTCC advocates to protect, expand, and strengthen the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit).

About us

Founded in 1988, the AHTCC is a trade organization of housing professionals who advocate for affordable rental housing financed using the Housing Credit. Our for-profit and non-profit members—including syndicators, investors, lenders, developers, legal and accounting professionals, state allocating agencies, public agencies, and coalitions—seek to preserve, expand and improve the Housing Credit and complementary programs through legislative outreach and education. Our nearly 200 member organizations have supported the provision of Housing Credit properties in every state and U.S. territory. Our members' deep expertise and dedication to affordable housing is clear: our members have syndicated more than one and a half million affordable homes, developed more than half a million affordable homes, and invested more than $35 billion into Housing Credit properties.

  • AHTCC’s New Research Reveals Significant Rent Savings for LIHTC Renters The Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition (AHTCC) has released new, first-of-its-kind research analyzing rent savings for households in homes made possible by the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit. Leveraging data from Moody’s, this study demonstrates the tangible impact of affordable housing across the U.S., providing key insights into just how crucial the Housing Credit is in today’s rental market and as a tool to combat inflation. On average, renters in Housing Credit homes pay rents that are $7,800 lower than those in market-rate properties. That’s a significant step toward financial stability, making a profound difference in households’ ability to allocate resources toward essentials like healthcare, childcare, groceries, and transportation. Housing Credit properties offer rents averaging $653 less per month than their market-rate counterparts across 80 of the largest U.S. metro areas—a substantial 38% reduction. Since 1986, the Housing Credit has played an instrumental role in building over 3.85 million affordable homes, serving almost 9 million households nationwide. The program has also supported more than 6.3 million jobs, generated over $250 billion in tax revenue, and added more than $716 billion in wages and income. Designing and Building Livable Communities for All

Construction has completed! Allegheny County Housing Authority and The Community Builders, Inc. Builders recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of Castlegate Green, a new construction 51 mixed-income apartment community located in Mt. Lebanon, which neighbors the city of Pittsburgh, PA. Castlegate Green includes seven residential buildings and a stand-alone management office with a greenhouse, community room, full kitchen and pantry, computer room, and a private office for on-site resident services. Inspired by the 'agrihood concept,' the common green, tot lot, and community gardens offer a family-friendly environment for neighbors to interact and allow residents to grow fresh food. Castlegate Green was made possible due to Low Income Housing Tax Credits, public housing and project-based section 8 vouchers, and an array of soft financing from numerous partners including Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency , PNC, Allegheny County, Allegheny County Housing Authority, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and The Community Builders. We are grateful for the support of the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition (AHTCC) for helping us to organize this celebration.  Special thank you to our design and construction team Tai Lee Architects PC , Sota Construction Services, Inc. and Common Ground. #teamwork #affordablehousing #mtlebanon #pittsburgh

Buena Esperanza was awarded the prestigious Charles L. Edson Award from the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition!🏆 This award honors properties that use tax credits to enhance communities by fostering economic mobility for residents while providing affordable housing and vital services. Buena Esperanza, formerly the Econo Lodge in northwest Anaheim, has been transformed into a thriving permanent supportive housing community. 69 studio apartments are dedicated to individuals and U.S veterans exiting homelessness, providing both housing and essential physical and mental health resources at no cost. This would not have been possible without the support of our financial partners: US Bank, the City of Anaheim, California Housing Finance Agency, and Disneyland Resort's contribution to the Orange County Housing Trust, which provided crucial last-mile bridge financing to kick off Buena Esperanza's construction. The North Fork Rancheria Indian Housing Authority (NFRIHA) recently received a prestigious industry award for creating more than two dozen affordable homes in its community. Last month, the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition recognized the North Fork LIHTC Homes 1 project as the 2024 Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award in the Housing for Native American or Tribal Populations category during a ceremony in Washington, D.C. NFRIHA developed 26 single-family homes for families in the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California, featuring one- through four-bedroom layouts. Additionally, the Tribe offers after-school programming for children living in the homes and opportunities for adult education, health and wellness, and skill-building programs. “This project was a significant achievement toward addressing our Tribal housing need. It is difficult to otherwise secure this level of funding through our typical funding sources, and this project was years in the making," NFRIHA Executive Director Paul Irwin said. "I want to thank the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition for the recognition and specifically for including Native American housing. This type of recognition and exposure is valuable for Tribal projects, and I hope that other Tribes can also utilize this funding source to benefit their communities.” Congratulations to the entire team!
