We were honored to partner with Ionis for the “I AM POSSIBLE” event, bringing adaptive experiences to their team and fostering greater understanding of the daily challenges faced by people with a disability and caregivers. From seated volleyball and hand cycling to therapeutic massages and lift-and-transfer demos, it was a day filled with learning, fun, and connection. Thank you to the amazing team at Ionis and the talented athletes from Challenged Athletes Foundation for making this event a huge success! Together, we’re breaking barriers and showing what’s possible. 🌟 #AdaptAbility #IAMPossible #CommunityCollaboration
Today we recognize Disability Independence Day, commemorating the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) over 30 years ago! At Ionis, we continuously strive to gain a deeper understanding of the lived experiences of caregivers and patients with differing abilities, and recently, our Quality Assurance and Manufacturing Operations groups hosted “I AM POSSIBLE,” a teambuilding event with support from members of Adapt Functional Movement Center alongside talented athletes from Challenged Athletes Foundation. Through adaptive experiences including seated volleyball, hand cycling, lift and transfer technique demos, therapeutic massage, live music, and socializing, we raised awareness of these lived experiences amongst our Ions in a fun and safe environment!

We're honored to be a part of this event and to work alongside the amazing volunteers and our partners at Ionis. Seeing the smiles, hearing the laughter, and feeling the energy of the day is what makes all the hard work worthwhile. Here's to many more years of Surf Away and continuing to make waves together! 🌊✨
It was a privilege to host members of the local California neurological disorders community on August 7th for our 9th annual Surf Away SMA! Nearly 80 Ionis volunteers, along with employees from Adapt Functional Movement Center, facilitated not only surfing, but also a hands-on tide pool, virtual reality tent, airbrush body art, therapeutic stretching and massage, food, and socializing. These adaptive experiences ensured the day was a celebration of the diverse abilities across this community. Volunteers and attendees alike agreed that the day was a huge success! According to one attendee, “[Surf Away] is something I look forward to every year! From getting back into the water, to having the water splash against my face and body, to tasting the salt water. Reflecting on this event from 2016 and looking at the event now – wow! Look at how much it's grown! It puts smiles on young kids' faces who have SMA... and this 66-year-old face too!”

🌟 Exciting News Alert! 🌟 👣 We're thrilled to share groundbreaking research for Cionic’c Neural Sleeve on improving gait in individuals with foot drop! Check out the summary of the article 'Augmenting gait in a population exhibiting foot drop with adaptive functional electrical stimulation': Functional electrical stimulation (FES) has long been recognized as a promising avenue for enhancing gait in individuals with foot drop, a condition often stemming from neurological issues. However, conventional FES solutions have faced significant hurdles, including fixed electrode placement and limited adaptability in stimulation sequencing. But fear not! Cionic is introducing a game-changer: the first-ever FES system with adaptive current steering. This innovation allows precise control over dorsiflexor and evertor muscles, offering personalized treatment to address key foot drop characteristics. In a pre-test, post-test study involving thirty-two participants, the results were nothing short of remarkable. By employing adaptive current-steering FES, the study witnessed an average increase of 5.2° in ankle dorsiflexion at heel strike, coupled with a reduction of -3.6° in ankle inversion during the swing phase. These improvements translate to a more stable ankle position, significantly lowering the risk of falls. Foot drop affects a significant portion of the population, compromising both physical safety and emotional well-being. These research endeavors tackle this issue head-on by leveraging cutting-edge technology to improve gait and overall quality of life for individuals with foot drop. Read the full article for more insights into this groundbreaking research! Let's continue advancing toward a future where mobility limitations are a thing of the past. 💪🚶♂️ Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gXs2V4eW #FootDrop #FunctionalElectricalStimulation #GaitImprovement #AdaptiveTechnology
