Last session, the legislature passed several joint resolutions proposing amendments to the Wisconsin Constitution. If legislators pass any of these resolutions for a second time at the beginning of the upcoming session, voters could see more referendum questions on their ballot.

This year, we investigated the scope of carceral debt collection practices in Wisconsin's municipal courts. Arresting or jailing people who can't pay their tickets creates a two-tiered system of punishment: one for those with financial means and one for those without. During the 2023-24 legislative session, we spent a significant amount of time engaging in the legislative process, monitoring key civil liberty issues, giving testimony, and talking with legislators to ensure the protection of Wisconsinites' rights.
