Over the past few months, our team at Able Partners partnered with Duke’s Advanced Degree Consulting Club (DACC) to explore the impact that climate change is having on consumers. Rising challenges like extreme weather, supply chain disruption, growth in pest populations and health risks, are driving demand for innovative solutions that address consumers' evolving needs in the face of climate change. We see several areas of opportunity for technology to influence innovation in an increasingly unpredictable environment: 🍎 Food and nutrition preservation 🪲 Vector-borne disease prevention 🔥 Thermal management 💨 Air purification ♻️ Microplastic filtration systems We are also exploring the outsized role that plants can play as a potential solution given their tangible benefits. This includes the rise of genetically enhanced varieties that improve air quality, protect nature, deter pests and emit light 🪴 We're interested in meeting companies that are building at this intersection of climate change and consumer needs. Thank you to our team of Duke researchers (Gracie Kreissler, Javeria Fazil, Dhanush Binu, Karnika Singh, Seijung Kim, Jessica Guo, Ammara Aqeel) for helping us explore and validate this thesis that we look forward to investing against next year. What’s next for consumer spending? At Able Partners, we’re always interested in how changing demographics affect consumer behavior. Over the last few months, I’ve been exploring a new area of potential investment: understanding where Millennials and Gen Z are directing their dollars as they’re less focused on traditional life milestones like marriage, homeownership, or starting a family. As these generations prioritize connection, community, and well-being, we see an exciting opportunity to invest in the next generation of products, services, and digital tools that cater to their evolving interests—particularly around pets and plants. We’re interested in backing companies that are shaping these trends and offering innovative solutions in the pet and plant markets. If you’re working on something that speaks to these shifts, let’s connect! #vc #consumertrends #pets #plants #millennials #genz Lisa Jacobs Blau Amanda Eilian Alison Ryu

FINALLY, a market map for founders of VCs investing in consumer ✨ Over the past year, it’s become increasingly difficult to identify which VCs are still committed to backing consumer startups. This uncertainty leaves founders wondering where to turn for funding and who is actively pursuing opportunities in the space. To help, we’ve compiled a curated list of early-stage consumer VCs still investing in consumer tech, marketplaces, prosumer tools, subscription models, and CPG/eCommerce. This list makes it easier for founders to connect with investors ready to fuel the next wave of consumer innovation.

  • Thank you, Arianna Huffington! At Able Partners, we believe that longevity goes hand-in-hand with making nourishing choices every day, and we loved having the chance to bring that to life with Function Health at our New York event.

Very often I go to health conferences where the only food and snack options are unhealthy. Shouldn't health conferences be an opportunity to show that healthy food can also be delicious? People might try some healthy new food that they love and make a point of making it back at home. That's why I loved seeing this spread from Function Health's New York launch breakfast hosted by Able Partners, a beautiful table featuring carrot muffins, avocado tartines, coconut cloud smoothies, turmeric chai oat + seed pudding and raspberry pomegranate oat + seed pudding, along with a grazing board including beet deviled eggs, matcha pistachio energy balls, tinned fish and fermented sides. We need to rethink our assumption that business events must always by default serve unhealthy foods — that can also, in fact, make us less energetic, less focused and less productive.

  • We're proud to welcome OneSkin to our portfolio and help consumers support a healthy skin microbiome!

🧴✨ We are excited to share our investment in OneSkin, a skin longevity company founded by a team of four female PhDs including Carolina Reis Oliveira and Alessandra Zonari. OneSkin’s proprietary peptide, OS-01, is designed to reduce the skin's biological age by improving the skin barrier, supporting DNA damage repair, and preventing the accumulation of aged cells. 🦠🧪 Our interest stemmed from our thesis work exploring the human microbiome's potential. The skin microbiome, like the gut, is a delicate ecosystem of millions of microbes, and when the balance of good microbes is disrupted in dysbiosis, there is an increased risk of inflammatory skin conditions. OS-01 has been clinically validated and published in peer-reviewed journals to show how it supports the health of the skin microbiome. 🙌 🎉 Lisa, Amanda and I are looking forward to collaborating with an incredible set of investors including Kiva Dickinson and the team at Selva Ventures, Olivier Garel, Anna Ohlsson-Baskerville and the team at Unilever Ventures and Amanda Groves and the team at PLUS Capital 🙌

Exciting news for the future of health! 🎉 We're excited to share that Holobiome has just closed a $9M Seed round. The team is building the world’s most comprehensive microbiome vault to unlock the power of our gut microbiota and translate groundbreaking science into products that can transform lives. What excites me most? Holobiome’s first target: the gut-brain axis, with a next-gen probiotic designed to impact mental health. The potential here is massive—imagine being able to influence conditions like depression through the microbiome. One of the biggest challenges in turning microbiome science into practical solutions is our inability to precisely alter or restore the gut microbiome due to a lack of the necessary tools and understanding. If you're missing key microbes, it’s extremely difficult to introduce them back into your system. Holobiome is addressing this head-on by developing precision products that can target and restore specific gut bacteria, offering a way to intentionally shape the microbiome for better health outcomes. Their platform could open doors for everything from consumer products to novel therapeutics, making meaningful impacts in stress, pain, and beyond. Able Partners is excited to partner with Philip Strandwitz and the Holobiome team on their innovative approach to rethinking gut health. Looking forward to seeing how this journey unfolds as they advance their lead program into human testing and expand their microbiome toolkit. 🌱🔬 #Biotech #Microbiome #GutHealth #MentalHealth #Innovation Cc: Lisa Jacobs Blau, Alison Ryu, Claire Akkan
