About us
826 Valencia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages six to eighteen with their writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. We are lucky to count on the support of the Yelp Foundation to elevate our youth voices. 🗣️ 💞 Thank you for your partnership!
2024 has been a transformative year for the Yelp Foundation and our nonprofit partners 🌟 Though the types of organizations have evolved since the Foundation’s inception in 2011, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to support nonprofits that align with our mission and make a positive impact where Yelp employees live and work. As we look toward the future, we are thrilled to embark on new partnerships with the trades sector. We have recognized a growing challenge within the industry: the skilled trades are facing a significant labor shortage. As a result, we've selected five organizations to fund this year, each tackling challenges in the skilled trades in unique ways like breaking down barriers, increasing the supply of skilled workers, and empowering new entrants to secure certifications and training for great jobs and potential business ventures. We are excited to continue this journey and look forward to another year of growth and impact alongside our new and long-term partners. One of the key writing traits we focus on at 826 Valencia is sentence fluency. 👂 Here are some quick tips you can apply when working on sentence fluency in your writing! - Mix longer sentences with shorter ones - Start your sentences with different words (unless you’re intentionally playing with repetition) - Play with different sentence structures (placement of subject, predicate, object…) 🦜💚 No parrots were harmed in the production of these examples.
