Probably too soon to answer having gone through the last five years of this but perhaps lessons learned are the most valuable lessons to learn. First, practice humility and tell your ego to take a long hike. Second, be of service. It’s not about you. It’s about how you can add value to the organization, the team, etc. Third, accept that it’s going to be a long journey so keep your head down and do the work. Finally, focus on being trustworthy, consistent, true to your word and treating everyone with courtesy and kindness; not just the people at the top. Everyone.

Now, after three years, I’m ranked among the top three performers, proving that consistency, humility, and a structured approach lead to success.

Control what you can control and keep focusing on doing the best job you can do. Seek to connect with peers, stakeholders, and colleagues to network and learn from them leveraging a growth mindset. Share the things you are already doing, and people will start to follow if you bring incremental impact.

Making a career shift is like moving countries—it comes with a mentality shift. You leave as a mature professional and arrive in new territory feeling like a “lost baby” unfamiliar with the language or environment. It’s part of the journey. But what are your gains? Look inside yourself and reconnect with the part of you that’s already transformed before from uneducated child to confident and independent professional. You’re doing it again—doubling your potential. Tune into that inner power. Radiate self-confidence, and respect from others will follow.
