One time, I juggled a last-minute client request that threw off my entire content strategy. The payoff? little to none. What I wish I’d done was take a step back, assess the real impact and openly communicate the trade-offs. Prioritize tasks based on long-term value, not just immediate noise, and always leave room for your own goals. Balance is possible when you're strategic about it.

In most cases, no matter what you'd like to do, client always comes first. After having experienced internal deadline delays and conflicts while we aced at client related KRAs for months, this is what worked best for us: setup a separate internal strategy team that does not directly interface with the client. For a startup, even two people who are dedicated towards internal growth, could make a difference. Once the priorities are separate, a firefighting situation at client end will not throw off all other internal activities. As a leader, one will have to assess where delegation is possible and where it's not to be able to ensure progress happens on all fronts.
