Finding alignment between core values and career can be a challenge, especially when navigating work-life balance. So firstly it’s important to identify your Core Values, which should act as your personal “North star”,and act as a guide. Also, work life balance has diff perspective for diff ppl, so you need to know what a balanced life looks like for you so you can focus on organizations known for aligning with your values. Use resources like Glassdoor to read about company culture, or look for employers who are committed to employee well-being, flexibility, or professional growth. As your career progresses revisit your values and balance needs. Sometimes what feels right changes over time, so give yourself permission to adapt & evolve.

The question contains the word “struggle” and it often happens that when one gets into the struggle because they do not honor their values, it leads to dissatisfaction, loss of energy and even burnout and compels to act. One pro tip: start on the journey before you are forced by your mental or physical struggles to do so. It’s a much smoother sailing. Another tip: your circumstances are constantly changing and evolving, so do reassess your balance regularly through a dedicated time for reflection, journaling, conversation with a coach.

I think the claim that having a career conflicts with life-balance is a fallacy. Work can be a profound source of meaning and purpose on people's life, so reframing the way you think about work and balance to reconciliate their connection rather than their difference should be a priority. Identifying one's values is a very subjective process sometimes leading to false positives. As such,I would recommend to be more scientific, for example, complete a Psychometric Assessment - i would recommend Hogan - which through validated reliable factors you can find core values, preferences and aspects of your motivation associated to your personality, then find a good coach to facilitate the right dialogues to solidify your findings.

Finding a career that aligns with your values is about understanding what truly matters to you—whether it's time with loved ones or doing meaningful work. Set healthy boundaries to protect your personal time. For example, if flexibility is important, seek jobs that offer remote work or flexible hours, so you can nurture both your career and well-being.

Even before exploring career options, some people have the idea that they might be unhappy with their choice. Give yourself grace. Know that your life is not a straight path, and your values will shift and change. To me, that shows a person who is thoughtful and capable of growth. It is, however, important to explore and reflect on your values in relation to your work life, early if possible. It’s important to set boundaries, advocate for yourself, communicate kindly and clearly, do your best at your job, ask questions, and try not to be fearful. Most importantly, be yourself and help others. At the end of the day, I think that’s the simplest and most balanced way to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Boundaries are yours to set the earlier you can establish them with respect and thoughtfulness, the better your work life balance will be.
