Let's allow a few alchemy-type ideas and let, for a moment, forget the obvious solutions. Agile has a manifesto, the Labour Party has a manifesto, so why not your team? Start with a ‘team manifesto’ session, asking each person to contribute to why this project matters to them personally. Understanding personal drivers will help bring people closer. Introduce a ‘creative pairing’ system: every week, pair one person from in-house with someone from the outsourced team, giving them a single, ambitious problem to solve creatively. “Hackathon-driven development” is a way to showcase passion and creativity, build relationships, and have fun together.
