If the manufacturer doesn't receive the parts to manufacture the items that are ordered, who are you going to call. The best way to prevent customers from being disappointed when ordering special orders is don't promise a timeline. If the manufacturer can't give you specifics, then I ask the customer if they need it yesterday, I would gladly help them find something else to fill their needs and still keep their name on the list and call them when the special comes in. In this world of uncertainties it's better to be honest with customers instead of making a promise that is not in your control, or country for that matter to keep.

Obviously vendor relationships are the most important. Trust is the biggest part! In an honest relationship the vendor should advise if shipments will be late. The buyer always needs to protect his/her business. Communication is the absolute key! Don’t lie. Be fair.
