Turn your cameras on; I find it to be a more personal experience when remote. I would also suggest frequent check-ins with your folks and encourage others to do the same. Lastly, I've always found 1/1's to be crucial; gives each person time with you. Cheers!

Play, and take coffes. Seriously. Do you remember old office days when people went have coffe after a stand-up daily? THAT is the key. Schedule at least half of an hour every week so that people can interact and learn from each other. In some teams is talking about hobbies, in others is litterally playing. All other advices given here are a must. You should have dailies(sync or async), proper documentation, a slack channel... but if you don't actively work on building a team.. well... it's not a team. Ah! And do retrospetives and make sure the ways of working are reviewed in there, not only the product.

In my opinion collaboration and open communication is the key. Its important to have the job clarity else there will be lot of Fort gaurding , which will end up in blame ganes rather than team work. Leadership and team culture plays an important role here to achieve good team work.

In my opinion, remote teams may work very well if they are well-disciplined. My suggestions are: 1 - Do online meetings with cameras on. 2 - Create chat groups in instant messaging tools to address quick issues with the remote team. 3 - Make a weekly meeting (cameras on) in order to engage the team members - this will improve their confidence and collaboration. Try to promote some dynamic activities to help people connect despite the geographical distance. This should be a break, not a job meeting. I am pretty sure that remote work can be as efficient or even more efficient than in-person work. Why? Because we save time with commutes and improve life quality. Happier employees produce better work :-)

Beyond that, carving out space for informal interaction really pays off. Sometimes it’s a virtual coffee chat, other times it’s a quick trivia quiz or a photo-sharing thread in Teams. These little social “breathers” let people share a laugh, highlight common interests, and just get to know each other better. Over time, this blend of scheduled alignment and relaxed, off-the-cuff exchanges has helped turn a group of remote individuals into a connected, collaborative team.
