Grading can feel like wrestling with a mountain of papers while teaching takes a backseat,😊? That’s where tech becomes your co-pilot. Tools like online rubrics, automated quizzes, or platforms that track participation take the grunt work off your plate. Ever tried something like GradeScope? It sorts the routine so you can focus on the messy, beautiful part of teaching; connecting with students. Plus, real-time analytics show who’s lost and who’s thriving without waiting for test results. It’s not about replacing you; it’s about freeing you to do what you’re best at: teaching, inspiring, and actually enjoying it.

Grading assessments shouldn't be arduous. I use tech for self-assessment, e.g. quizzes. If marking an assessment feels like admin for the teacher it's probably boring for the student. I create assessments that use tech to enable student collaboration and network building and peer review (using simple tech such as discussions, peer assessment tools, groupwork feedback) and trigger the students to do interesting assessments that are fun to mark. The teacher should be present as teacher during the assessment process.

This can be a great tool to utilize for simple True/False and multiple choice answers. However, I do caution away from this if we are asking open ended questions that require lateral thinking (or higher-order thinking).

To help me balance grading and teaching, tge use of technology has made it easier as I have amazing tools that will support my assessing and grading my students using the following tools . Tools like Google Forms, Quizizz, and Grammarly automate grading, giving instant feedback and saving me time for personalized instruction. Digital portfolios through Seesaw and rubric-based grading on Google Classroom streamline assessments also enable me to spend less time on grading and spend more time teaching.

Definitely use anything that can automate grading. We should not be grading by hand anymore! We need to use any automated systems out there - that can create a rubric and it’ll grade the work.
