Operational efficiency and innovation seem like opposites. One seems to try to kill the other. That’s naive and should stop. Leaders should understand the value of both encourage these two forms of performance teach this to their teams. Efficiency overdone can kill innovation. Innovation overdone could stop you in your tracks. So understanding and implementing the elegant transformation of your team from one approach to another is the skill of advanced teams. I know this because I ran a team who knew when to dream and knew when to execute to the mission. It’s amazing!

Innovation is highly necessary to have sustainable processes driving operational excellence. However, major challenges arise while piloting and scaling up an innovation. Few things to keep in mind are: 1. Any new innovation to start with should ideally be frugal with minimal tech/product involvement 2. Pilot testing is highly necessary to understand the challenges and limitations 3. Any innovation should be an iterative process and should be continued till perfection 4. Post this stage, product and tech development is required to have implemented on a large scale 5. New product launch should be phase wise and should be after proper communication and training
