At AIESEC Egypt, I led a team of kayaking instructors with varied expertise in teaching, safety, and logistics. To foster collaboration, I first aligned everyone on our goal: ensuring a safe yet exhilarating experience for beginners on the Nile. Pairing instructors with complementary skills, I encouraged knowledge sharing and leveraged everyone’s strengths. Daily debriefs became a platform for open communication, allowing us to refine processes and address challenges quickly. This collaborative approach not only enhanced team performance but also created a unified experience for over 150 learners. It taught me that diverse expertise is a strength when aligned with shared goals.

Equipes com conhecimentos diversificados não são exceções, mas o comum, principalmente com tantos segmentos para cuidar em um projeto ou empresa. Para cultivar a colaboração de forma eficaz: 1) Tenha uma comunicação clara sobre os objetivos comuns; 2) Permita e incentive uma comunicação clara, aberta e respeitosa, para que todos possam trazer suas opiniões e habilidades para a mesa; 3) Tenham uma concepção/briefing para cada projeto ou área, deixando muito claro qual o norte que todos devem buscar. Em última análise, é um jogo de comunicação clara e eficiente. Na prática, contudo, ter um líder capaz de manter essa cultura é um desafio real. Ou seja, valorize quem é capaz de manter equipes unidas e produtivas.

I would create a respectful environment where differences, especially those related to pace and methods, are respected and valued. I would start by setting common goals and then vary individual goals depending on skill sets. I would push for a greater need to understand more than one's core skill set—this creates an environment of learning and strengthens collaboration in achieving shared targets!

Maintaining a collaboration within a team is a tough job for managerial level. I just want to share my perspectives : 1. Find out the strengths of the team members 2. Set the clear goals 3. Build the supportive relationship 4. Freedom to work 5. Set the mutual respect and trust 6. Guide them not shouting 7. Assigne them productive works 8. Let them realise that they are important for the team.
