Navigating the process of handing work to a new person can be challenging, especially in a remote setup. However, with transparency becoming more common, it’s all about trusting the process. Clear communication, setting expectations, and staying connected regularly help build trust faster. It’s important to let new team members take ownership of tasks, even if it feels uncomfortable at first. Ultimately, providing the right support and recognizing their contributions will lead to a more collaborative and effective team. Trusting each other is key, and it pays off in the long run.

Building collaboration and trust requires more than just open communication, clear goals and use of technology. I have found it important to avoid the temptation to focus solely on business , and I don’t think that every meeting has to be driven by a tight agenda. It is crucial, especially when onboarding a new team member, to allow time, in 1:1’s and team meetings to have more free flowing discussions that may not even be about the work - the sort of discussions that happen organically if everyone was in the same office.

For me 😃 in remote work: Informal relationship and connection means a lot, I will plan a 2 day engagement trip before the project and make sure each member gets connected. This will help in future co-ordination and build trust among members. If a physical meeting is not feasible in that case I'll organise an online two day engagement program so that they must know each other before working as a team.
