Most importantly, show enthusiasm for building rapport. A clear, empathetic approach fosters trust and improves results.

When managing remote employees, I've found that giving effective feedback requires being intentional and thoughtful. I had a remote team member working on a marketing campaign. The results were falling short of expectations, and I knew feedback was needed. During our next scheduled check-in, I started by acknowledging the efforts and pointing out specific parts of the campaign that were well done, like the creative visuals and engaging tone, and I set a positive tone. Then, I addressed the areas for improvement. I mentioned that while the visuals were strong, the messaging wasn't fully aligned with the target audience. It's crucial to be specific, supportive, and encouraging when providing feedback to maintain strong relationships.
