In healthcare, patients always come first. I believe the key to balancing patient care and administrative work is mindful time management. I ensure that every patient interaction is meaningful, giving them my undivided attention. Administrative tasks, though necessary, are scheduled around patient needs. Delegating and using technology helps streamline processes, but compassion and connection remain at the heart of everything I do. Ultimately, it’s about creating space for both efficiency and empathy, ensuring no one feels like just another file or form.

Time management is the key to handling Admin and clinical care, - Priority for clinical care - every morning few minutes for admin work then EOD 1 hr for complete the admin. - train the team members with problem solving and decision making efficiency - Delegation of authority, this will create more autonomy and mentorship

It is essential to build and retain a team of individuals who share the same mission and culture. These individuals increase patient satisfaction by contributing towards an efficient workflow. Delegating tasks allows the leader to prioritize, develop, grow, and empower their team. Setting daily goals helps reduce burn out and encourage prioritization as other situations throughout the day are bound to arise. Creating a list and crossing off the tasks also helps keep the leader on the correct path and visually see which team members has been assigned to a particular task. Overall, a strong team, prioritizing, delegating, writing to do lists, and learning how to effectively manage time are a few ways to maintain operational efficiency.

I believe that there are a series of measures that can and should be put into practice to align and streamline administrative tasks in a transparent way. These measures are particularly important as the health care system moves from a volume-based to a value-based system. In addition, it is necessary to improve the development and implementation of measures that make use of information technology to streamline administrative and medical processes that provide value and reduce the burden.

One thing I have found helpful is learning from places were juggling both works. I have been head of admin on several occasions, and I can state clearly that the patient comes first. We simply adjust to accommodate the health needs of the patient, not the other way round. But having someone with clinical experience as an administrative head in a hospital clearly gets a better total outcome. Though opinions varies, but this is my take

My foundational principle is to build strong teams, from there, anything can be achieved efficiently. Map out activities/tasks. Prioritise Delegate Set up monitoring and feedback systems with nudges that will help you get ahead of any challenges. The heart of healthcare is remembering the patient is at the core.

Balancing between patient care and administrative tasks can be challenging especially in demanding fields like breast cancer surgery and my strategies are prioritizing patient care, streamline administrative work , build supportive team, optimizing scheduling, communication and collaboration and self care and wellbeing..All these strategies need to be in mind supported by data driven decisions and regular training and always be with team, as leader you have to in the field.

Balancing patient care with administrative tasks requires a structured, evidence-based approach. In my clinical career, I have been inspired by Atul Gawande’s Checklist Manifesto, which highlights how operational efficiency can be maintained by embedding checklists into daily workflows. These tools ensure critical tasks are not overlooked, streamline communication, and reduce cognitive overload. Prioritise actively, delegate effectively, and embrace technology for routine admin work. Integrate time for reflection, allowing you to recalibrate and address emerging issues. By fostering a culture of reliability and precision, healthcare professionals can continue to deliver patient-centered care while meeting administrative demands.

To maintain efficiency, these are some of the important pointers: 1. Prioritize time management: Set clear daily goals to stay organized. 2. Delegate administrative tasks: Delegate non-clinical tasks to support staff when possible. 3. Use technology: Implement tools like electronic health records to streamline documentation. 4. Standardize processes: Create standardized procedures to reduce decision fatigue and improve efficiency. 5. Schedule regular breaks: Avoid burnout by taking regular breaks during the day. 6. Ensure clear communication: Maintain concise and effective communication with the healthcare team. 7. Block time for tasks: Allocate specific times for patient care and administrative duties to balance both effectively.
