Networking is more than sending a message or meeting someone at an event. It’s about building real relationships through honest and kind conversations. As a service provider, one thing I’ve learned is that offering help first without expecting anything in return, often leads to the strongest connections. Give it time, and trust that good relationships will grow naturally.

Networking is 2 sided however sometimes we have to look at our goals and needs and how we can find mutual things to talk about or work on. I would offer the assistance as part of the relationship but also be willing to ask for what you need. It is about both sides owning the success of the relationship. Even with this, following up is a balancing act. You want to be a contributor to the relationship, get what both sides need and at the same time allow the relationship time to grow without having to chase it. If in the end you have shared needs and offered value, it is up to you to decide how or if to continue the relationship going forward.
