4 steps to re-build credibility with media after a crisis: 1. Acknowledge the mistake. Be open and honest about the error. 2. If necessary, apologize to those affected. 3. Fix it. But don't make empty promises. Own what you can: revise your processes and protocols, do an internal investigation, etc. 4. Put a face to the name. Pick a spokesperson, train them accordingly on your messaging, and be open with the media outlets. You can even reach out to them as a sign of good-natured intent. Bonus: what NOT to do - Crisis management and credibility control IS NOT A TIME FOR MARKETING ACTIONS. Do not promise free products/services, discounts, or any other freebies aimed at distracting the media and audience from the real problem.
-
Acknowledge the Issue Honestly: Publicly accept responsibility where necessary and provide clear, transparent explanations. Engage Proactively: Reach out to key media outlets with updates, clarifications, and a commitment to open communication. Showcase Corrective Actions: Highlight specific steps taken to address the issue and prevent recurrence. Leverage Trusted Voices: Partner with credible third parties or stakeholders to vouch for your sincerity and improvements. Maintain Consistent Messaging: Ensure all communications align with your brand values and address media concerns directly.

I'm very familiar with this as it was top priority for me upon my arrival to my current organization. In order to repair and rebuild the relationship with our press corps, we had to change our communications strategy. Our strategy is ATT -- accountability, transparency, and trust. Accountability is crucial. When an organization makes a mistake, own it. But owning it is not enough. You must explain and show how you will not make the same mistake twice. Transparency is key. When you provide access to information and timely responses with no spin, it builds credibility. Always come out with your hands up, as my Boss says. Trust is paramount. Trust is hard to earn but easy to lose. Always tell the truth even in the face of danger.
-
Siga estes passos: 1.
